From what I have seen it appears you are right @Ryan. Given that he most likely is a Shia fighter, he is in most part fighting inline with our own views of ridding the world of ISIS. I wouldn't go as far as saying that he is on our side but at least we share a sort of common goal.
If it was a Shia that got killed it sorta makes him on our side, enemy of my enemy n all that....
