    Thought of doing this. A 1/2 inch bolt is much wider than the inside diameter of the bell so I'll have to drill it out but thats where I'm worried about stuffing it up, drilling on the piss or/and drilling off center, then taping thread the same. I'd only have one chance of getting it right. If that work then to make an insert I'd take a 1/2x20 bolt as you said, cut down to appropriate length and drill hole all way though and more than wide enough for projectile to pass though, that would be the easy part.
