Thread: Tikka .270 what to do?

Tikka .270..... thinking of modifying to something good for 0-500.

Potentially 20” limited recoil

Whats people thoughts?

Maybe leave as .270?

Just looking for inspiration

leave it as .270 and work on your loads..if its not already surpressed do it.... putting can on mine meant my mild loads got pulled and she now running hot and fast as rifle likes it that way...
500 means you will be dialing anyway so may aswell load what you like to use...150 partitions are great.... the 140grn interlocts I got given are dead boring...so far Ive shot two red hinds at 300-350 yards with single round for each....dead boring,bang and deer dies soon afterwards.
and dont shorten it........if you must do so,look at what DULEYS were doing this past season with tikka .270
funny as hell Greg admitting when they crunched the numbers it was BEST option for factory loads....nearly fell of my chair laughing when read that.

7 x 57 or708 running 150elds
6mm rem or 243 fast twist barrel

20” running something like the 145 ELD-X with a good load and you be away laughing.

I agree, leave as 270. People are getting approximately 3100fps using superformance and 145 eld x. That roughly delivers 1700ft-Ib at 500 yards which is plenty.

If bored with 270 why not 6.5prc or 6.5 saum ?
Got the action lenght to seat out the heavys, great ballistics moderate recoil and enough gun.

New barrel turn into a 280 better than a 270

280 or 280AI would be my pick
Its easyer to ream a 7mm08 barrel out to 280 with a minor set back to loose the caliber stamp under the foregrip

I like my t3 280 but 270 is no longer the red headed stepchild it once was
Id try out the superformance hornady and replicate it with a handload
pretty convenient having a common caliber too, good luck finding ammo on shelves with 280rem
Id leave it 270 at least for a while, till you are set on spending that thousand dollars+ on a new caliber

Cut the 270 to 18” and shoot 145eldx at 2900

Seeing it's actually a 7mm why not rename it the 7006 or just 007. Be a trend setter.

^^^^^^ this if there is nothing wrong with the barrel and it's a shooter there's really no point in pouring $$$$ into it, 500 yards that's really stretching it for a 270win even if you can get 3100fps with 145gn eldx I limit myself to 400 yards but thats me, enough ft/lbs at a set amount of yards is not the only consideration for ethical hunting. Not trying to tell you how to suck eggs mate and don't wanna turn this into a shit fight.

Convert it to some silly 6.5 or 7mm caliber. 270 is only for discerning gentlemen anyway

Look-I'll help out here. sell it to me for 50 bucks.
