Easy or hard to clean ?
. . . or any other info worth passing on. .
Any or all replies appreciated ;)

i have one that i made for rem700 L/A, was heavy but comfee to shoot apart from a cold day;)
I'd like to see that Abe, got any pics ??
I will be getting one in a week or two then it needs a putting together, XLR Chassis, hopefully the reamer will be here.
Will be able to let you know then.
My Barrett 98B is sort of a tube gun & I like it a lot, shame the factory barrel & chamber is crap :pissed off:
It will be rebarreled & chambered in 338 Norma.
Is that a kit then Greg ?
If so what breed ?

This is the XLR Red I'm even getting tempted to get one myself
Have a look here.

And here.

Then put the barreled action put into it, must be easy to do.
Awesome looking bits of kit !!
Can't wait to see pics of finished article. .
I like the idea except that an alu chassis + whatever stock + whatever forend + whatever grip = heavier than 500gms of fiberglass.
Have you had a look on Scott Trails website?
He is an incredibly talented fella that earned his qualifications in our military, Scott has an eye for perfection and makes a lot of Rifles, Actions, Triggers etc in house.
He makes some very nice Ultralite rifles and has started development and manufacture of his "Uberlites" using alloy in the Action and Chassis, starting with the 08 case and the option of 10 shot AI mags, then the SAUM WSM cases and is working his way up through the 338's
For those that want more, his 50cal can be bought in a 15 pound walkabout hunting Rifle and in his original Long Range Sniping configuration.
Its definately worth a phone call (Scott 027-5791047) or a wee look on his website.

Did you get it from DED?
Serious shooters has some new chassis form Canada I think
Is that the MDT (I think) one? They seem popular in Australia.
G'Day fella's,
I recently got in an MDT TAC-21, tube rifle type setup for a customer.
From what he (and others) tells me, they are the best?
They do look to be very well designed and made!
These types of rifle stock modifications, seem to be our response to our need to have Black Guns!
You Kiwi's, don't suffer these kinds of withdrawals as you actually have had a series of Reasonable smart politicians!
The same can't be said for the bunch of wankers (of all creeds and colors), that have been attempting to run (into the ground?) Australia!
It's about this time that I state my usual comment about the slimy Political Animal (FJWH), that confiscated a heap of our interesting firearms!!!
Hope that helps
Doh!

Yep, you guys got sucker punched big time.
My mate got an MDT chassis from Canada for a project that didn't end up going anywhere. Think it cost him $900 from Mystic Precision
Max Mitchberry builds them, he's in Kelson , Brian has one in 6.5/06.
Mitch Maxbury bro.
Redbang, how are you getting on with your search for a tube rifle.
Cant be far away now RED ....
This is mine Very easy to shoot well.I use it all the time for hunting open country.
Ive covered the cheek piece and handgrip with butenol for cold weather. Its easy to clean you need a long rod.
I like the way its all one extrusion nothing come loose on you.

What's that bloody great big thing between its legs? Is that the grenade launcher? :D
Is that a Tika mag adapted for the Rem action?
I was about to post the "this thread is useless without pitchers" pic. Thanks Brian. How do they compare to Barnards 07 weight, price etc?
Its a Tikka mag because you need a single stack one.Mines got a heavier than necessary barrel for a hunting rifle but i cant remember the weight.
I dont know anything about the Barnards but mine was about $3500 with a Jewel Trigger
Check this out

Getting sweaty now, can't be far away, will be giving it this week for the sake of them getting reorganized after the break, then email for progress report. Ordered it early October, with 3 month lead time, so getting hopeful. Keep looking wistfully at their site !
Got an email from them last week, barrel should be going on as we speak, then whole thing for Guncoteing, then shooting. Then it will be MIIIINNNNEEE !!!!

Did anyone checkout their staggered fluting?
seen it in person, its real nice,
Scotts done a few things for me and has always given great sevice, and exactly what i wanted,
Ha Ha good question! Presumably someone has used a clever program to work out the most weight removal for the least loss of rigidity.
Or maybe it just looks cool:D I couldn't tell ya.
Certainly looks like more metal is removed than "normal" fluting.
Who is a design engineer? Spanners? run some numbers:D
'Technically' and if it makes a gnats cock of difference, it would be stronger than full flutes, providing the interrupted portions are opposite each other, if not opposite 'technically' the barrel will go /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ like a spring lol
If I get bored during my next trip, I'll draw them all up and run finite analysis on the different types.
I like the golf ball fluting thats done overseas and some spiral stuff - not the spiral I've seen in NZ though.
Would be interesting the effect of say 1:8 RH spiral fluting on a 1:8 RH twist barrel?

Jeez !! Thats a beast !
What breed ?
Now that is far kin cool:cool:
Weight?
When I eventually can build a LR rifle it will be something along those lines eg a sporter
H S Precision receiver, stock and trigger.
Scott Trail at ssrnz.co.nz put it all together and its flawless, a work of art really.
