Thread: VX3-HD 4.5-14x40 vs other scopes of similar value?

VX3-HD 4.5-14x40 vs other scopes of similar value?

Looking at upgrading from my current VX3i 3.5-10x40 to a VX3-HD 4.5-14x40 for two reasons:
    a) I want a higher end magnification for longer range shots
    b) I want dial-up turrets as I have just bought a range finder and am keen to get a bit more accurate.

Just wondering if there are any other quality scopes for around $1000 second hand that would be worth looking at. Attraction to Leupold is because I like the current glass and the warranty is tough to beat for the hunting I do. Open to suggestions

Be well worth a look at this, hard to beat for the money with great turrets.
I always found the vx3 4.5-14 to be a bit dull and really lost clarity fast in fading light. Element have a lifetime warranty too granted the Leupold will be lighter.

Field of view and eye relief were pretty poor on the VX-3i 4.5-14x40 in my opinion. Not sure how the newer model compares.

Check out the Burris Signature range too, I picked one up and it's on par feature and clarity wise with my VX5 but they are only VX3 money.

I was suprised by the Bushnell Engage 4-16x44. Exposed locking turrets were pretty nice and ED glass was more than i was expecting and can get them for under $600. Could be worth a look

The HD is a little nicer glass than the old I. Eyebox not to bad.

Biggest advantage it has over everything else in that price catagory is weight. Hell of a lot lighter than anything else mentioned in this thread. That may or may not matter to you depending on goals and how you hunt.

I really. Like the loopy turret system to, simple, low profile and effective.

You will be disappointed I would suggest you try one first as the eye relief is crap.
The Burris HD 3.5-15 is way better and better glass in my eyes as well.

The VX3HD should address the problems of the vx3i surely?

Maybe I'm unsure on that one.

Yes I’m sure it will be spot on no point dogging their own name for the HD range by not addressing that

Another vote for the Burris Signature 3-15.
gun city have a burris veracity 3-15 on special at 1399.
veracity is the next step up over the signature but you loose the illuminate reticle but do get FFP,

There is also the version of the Leupold with the 30 mm tube.

    Also have a look at the zeiss v4 4-16 x 44.
See if magnum sports in Sydney will ship if you like them.

FFP with no illum can be a bit shit for hunting when using lower mag in close or at last light.

Epic loving the insight, will go into H&F and check out Leupold VX3 and Burris. The weight isn't a deal breaker for me

I truly love my vx3i 4.5-14, it's seen scopes come and go from the safe and it's still there. You welcome to come have a look-C and shoulder it.
