Thread: What is the actual process for sending a firearm

is there anywhere where the rules are plainly layed out for the rules behind buying and posting a firearm?

kaitaia police station wont even give me the form to fill out untill I provide them with

sellers name, sellers address, sellers phone number and sellers firearms number

seriously, they wont allow me to have this form till i provide this.

is my understanding correct that the form is for the seller to confirm that I do indeed have a firearms licence and they have confirmed this?

I went in got the form went home filled it out then the AO signed it and It was sent to the seller to confirm I had a licence.

I don't see why they wont give you the form

they would not give me the form to take home and fill out.

I am certain I can find it somewhere on the net, but really it just seriously pissed me off

Im interested in hearing the process tho, It has got to be layed out somewhere straightforwardly and simply for the staff involved. so I can use this as an opportunity to up-skill these uninformed individuals

I just go into the local, . . . .They say you again head and get the form do there bit sign bottom etc and leave me to do the rest nice and easy, job done

I got a blank form, contacted the seller to get his address, license number etc. filled in my details and took it back.

The AO then took the form back, and after 10 minutes came out with a letter printed on Police letterhead.

They are checking the details of both the seller and buyer, for instance the guy I bought from had moved and not let them know his new address, so my AO was going to contact his AO to remind him about the requirement for notifying the police about address change.

Would imagine that the are effectively recording sales as well and building a register behind the scenes, not like this is news to anyone...

Bottom line is how much do you want to get the new firearm ? If you start giving your AO grief, he/she can make life pretty unpleasant for you. It sucks that different AOs seem to be singing from different hymn sheets, but hey, that's the way the cookie crumbles...

The forms are for the seller, but it's the Police also making sure the seller has an FAL. Writing down the serial number doesn't mean diddly squat though, you could make something up. Or you could use it as an opportunity to make sure the seller is delivering the correct firearm to you that they say they have.

Get the seller to take it to his local hunting and fishing, get them to send it to kaitaia h&f with instructions to sight your fal and confirm your identity before releasing it to you, costs about $20. H&F take the responsibility to sight fal or return to seller.

I just get the buyer to email me a scan of the form. When buying myself, AO doesn't care about serial numbers, and sometimes doesn't get involved in the sellers details. Recording numbers on the form is useful for the best part of fuck all.

You would be amazed the amount of fucking around some people have to go through to get a mail order form signed off. I once sold a rifle to forum member Antsman, IIRC, the AO in Welly was away, and none of the cops were willing to touch anything to do with firearms, so I ended up driving to Taihape to make the trade. The law clearly states that the form must be signed by a member of police, you don't even need the official police form, your license and details just need to be recorded, the officer's QID number, station, signature. How hard can it be?

I usually do this, but he is insisting that I am trying to coax him to break the law. and there isnt a hunting and fishing store in queenstown
his words were I get the verification form before the gun leaves my house.

here use this form, fill it out in adobe reader and print it then take it in to be signed. I've used this form more times than I can remember.

I cant believe what a grey area this is. One of our local cops has told a mate on at least two occasions that it is fine just to send an electronic proof of FAL, IE a scanned copy. Others, including myself, have been told by the same cop station that we have to fill out the form, get it signed by serving cop, and send hard copy to the seller.

The 43a form is only to show the cops have sighted your FAL,it matters not a flying fornication what A cat or ammo you are buying

Whats the problem with getting those details for the form? You have already been in touch with the guy... If its too much hassle you could leave it to the next highest bidder
