    What solvent?

Hi all. Have had my rifle out for target practice a few times now. Had groups as small as .414". Yesterday it was out to about 2". I'm sure it's because my scope has come loose. I cleaned all the threads with 100% acetone from the pharmacy, and cotton buds, but may have missed some. What spray type oil remover do you guys use to clean up for scope-mounting? I'm gonna re-do it so want it right this time.
    Cheers,
    Ken

Hi Greg. I used the threadlocker that came with my Wheeler scope mounting kit.

dry cleaning fluid, i used to buy 50ml bottle from the pharmacy but any dry cleaning places could sell you some. its non toxix but it will remove oil from your skin so be careful.
i used to use carbon tetrachloride but its hard to get now as people know how to make phosgene (mustard gas) out of it

Carbon tet is a chemical just too dangerous to recommend to use, if you can get it. Very damaging to the liver in just its native form. Banned almost world wide for use in fire systems (Halon, although 2 companies in NZ still have dispensation to use it) ) because of the hazardous gases given off when extinquishing fires.

Tetra hydro furan will shift most anything including fully cured epoxy if thats of any help to ya. Dry cleaning fluid nowadays is just odourless white spirits pretty much as usefull as turps.

halon is bloody amazing at fire extinguishing. also very good for selfe defense if you have an extinguisher full of it. absolutely dissolves the oxygen out of opponents bloodstream

Thanks guys. Guess it'll be BrakLeen. Don't particularly want to dissolve anyone's oxygen from their bloodstream, unless Crusher Collins, or little Johnny Key & Co.
