Thread: What's a good rear bag?

Hi

I can see the benefits in taking a rear bag with me when hunting, but its just one more thing to take up room in my pack or add weight so I've never used one, I've always just put my rangfinder and/or my left hand under the rifles butt to support it during a shot.

After reading the mono-pod thread, and everyone strongly advised to just get a rear bag. So which rear bag is everyone using for hunting situations?

Old Sneeze has a good one his wife made up. He told me it was going to get modified and he would get back to me..............Still waiting........It was very light, yet firm and workable. Like a small bean bag but better. I am not sure on what the fill was, but it worked well when I used it. I will be grabbing one off him when he gets another one or two made up.

Hmm that sounds interesting. I was thinking of maybe filling a little canvas pouch with old supermarket bags all scrunched up? I tried plastic beads, but that weighs about 1kg and was never going to be used for hunting.

I use rice in a bike tube about 15 cm long for the daypack. Nice and light and has lasted for ever.

Yeah you could start a fire with the tube and eat the rice

I forgot my rear bag yesterday so used a bunched up pair of fleece trousers, worked better than any bag I've used and is all I'm going to use from now on. Looks hoory but I couldn't care less. When it got cold I put them on to.

Could always stick them down your undies when wearing a speedo at the beach?

But seriously; I like the idea, just something a little more rugby ball shaped maybe better?

Just make sure you put them down the front and they stay there! I cleared a beach once when something similar swung around the back as I got out of the water.
