    Winchester featherweight 243

My brother has given me his winny 243 he reckoned it was shooting a bit off, I set it up at 50m a4 paper and hit the top then the bottom then the side ... you get the idea!
Down the barrel it looks like a dark ring then a bringht ring, so what are his options?
He was going to sell it and get something stainless synthetic, but now he obviously has to do something about the barrel or sell it for parts.
    Cheers

Number 1 option would be get a gunsmith to have a look at it.
If you are lucky it might just need a good clean and the sights tightened...
If you are a bit unlucky it might need recrowning...
If you are fairly unlucky you will have to buy a new barrel (or the new owner will).

And if you are very unlucky it might explode next time you fire it

Give the barrel a good scrub, and leave some solvent in it for a while.
Remove the scope and rings and check the bases are fixed tight to the action.
Give the barren another scrub ...
    Replace the rings
Give the barrel another scrub ...
Put another known good scope on and make sure it is mounted well and tight.
Give the barrel another scrub ...
Put some copper solvent in and see what comes out.
    Give the barrel another scrub.
Take it back to the range and try again.

Have had a couple lately like that. Needed a good clean and above all a new scope.

From what you say it sounds like a bulged barrel . Push a tight patch down the bore and if it comes easy at the dull area then ,either shorten the barrel to before the bulge , or it is a replacement .
