What about the Chinese open source Deep Seek which was made in 2/3 months at cost of $6m. News shed 1 trillion off US stock market. LOL.
Look how much the release of Deepseek R1 has upset the applecart. Losses are in USD and over the past 24 hours

Whatever you think, this technology will change movies and media forever

That's about all its good for.
Bloody govt departments are using it more and more. And it provides the 'customer' a very average experience. From my experience.
Digital i.d. and facial recognition tech now standard on new nz driver licences. Several govt agrncies have access.

I think your use of "average" may be misleading....I tried to call a company reently with an issue. The AI kept asking questions and after 4 or 5 questions would always loop back to the start to try again...And not one of thos 'pick a path' runs actually had any answer to any possible query that I could think of...And to make it worse, that company had no other published contact detals - no publicly available email or phone number...I found a simple solution...I took my spend elsewhere and wont return.
Intelligence has its limits, but it appears that Stupidity knows no bounds......
I had this run-around some time ago too on Aliexpress. Then I remembered seeing (somewhere) to say 'Get human'....and it worked. the AI decided then it couldn't help and it went and put a real human on the line. This was about 1 year ago...so maybe it will still work...or is AI too clever now to need a human, or maybe now there is no human?
Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be an unseemly brawl.
Have a look at the video I posted on the music thread of Jo Jinks, that is an AI video.

A bit more bang is better.
What AI can do is amazing but you still need to verifiy what it does.
I wanted to enhance the text on some photos so I thought I'd give AI a go at it, what it did do was overlay a similar image over mine and pronounce it done. I knew enough of the text to recognise that it was a worthless result, but if you took the result as gospel you'd be up the brown creek without a paddle.
Read this the other day and its a good summary - what AI does different to other tech is emphasise experience instead of expertise:
With AI’s limited barrier to entry, experience matters more than tech fluency. A 62-year-old pharma exec can identify dodgy AI outputs that a fresh grad would trust completely. The prompt engineering might be simple, but knowing when AI's talking rubbish requires years of pattern recognition
