My hunting dog went the same way a few months ago. Collapsed in the back end. She was a lab / heading dog x and was pretty handy. Made it to 10. To be fair she had a tough life. Up and down steep ridges, in and out of slippery cold creeks and pushing through lots of thick undergrowth. All this in the ruahines, kawekas and ahimanawas.
But when she found a deer she smiled and knew that venison was on the menu.
Picking up a new straight heading dog pup on Wednesday. Will hopefully start doing some work with it in the spring.
Hope your dog has the winter by the fire.
