Im just trying to get a handle on how you would plan a hunt like that it looks awesome. How long were u there? How do you hunt do you spot different catchments from tops or travel through them? Is where the chopper landed on the divide? How far down off the top did you camp? Sorry bout all the Q's answer them if you get time or can be bothered. it looks like a great hunt

Just find a spot on the map you want to go and figure out if you want to fly or walk in, if fly then ring the chopper (Jamie Scott is good for that area) and go in. We were only there for a few days from one base camp but were traversing the ridges looking into a lot of country. This spot is quite coastal and we just camped on the tops themselves as was good weather.

this might be a naive question; but is tops hunting like that 'gut busta' territory? - I'm not all that fit, so do recognise I'd be having to budget for chopper in-out - but realistically, even if I was up there, how hard did you rate the walking on the tops?

Im not fit at all i carry about 10 kg too much (on my gut not in my pack) probably takes me twice as long to the tops as someone like hillclima or R98 but i make it. i have herd people say you have to be super fit to hunt tahr thats rubbish it just limits how much ground you can cover and how quick u can get to the tops = less opportunity to shoot something. in my experience with armed mountain climbing once you are at the tops its way easier sidling around the accent is the worst part.

    thanks username.

I confess your profile pic kept distracting me when you said you carry '10kg too much' lol
(and yes - I'm in the 10kg-plus class too)

I can climb any hill I want, but I am no rabbit at 44 that's for sure.
I hunt with my eyes mostly, not my feet
