    Decent Boar

Been trying to catch up with this big young bugger since he showed up last month

Chicks dig scars apparently, he has a nice one on his shoulder & a cut in one ear so looking pretty tough crunching up old possum bones and probably thinking Bro you are looking a bit stuck in there

Yesterday his luck finally ran out & he discovered first hand the Ferrets predicament

He was a decent size vet bill just waiting to happen, he certainly wasn't particularly happy to see me, don't blame him to be fair

There is a kidney in there somewhere

At 145lbs gutted he had put on a bit of weight since we first crossed paths

Found a little surprise in his neck skinning him this morning, you can see where it was in the pic above

It had been in there a long time, only missed its mark by a few inches but clearly that was enough for this tough guy to survive & flourish

I donated half each to a couple of older mates who were extremely happy to receive it

    Nice.

Losing him after popping him there with a .264 would be disappointing ... not what you'd ordinarily expect?

Yeah nothing there except meat, smaller cartridges, boom, fall over, squeal, get up & bugger off, bigger cartridges same shot placement, bigger mess, less chance of disappearing, still can happen though....

    They are tough animals

    Very nice boar.
What did you use to flatten him ?
If you retrieve the jaw could you post a pic ?
    Cheers

Found a .22lr projectile under the skin of a boar I shot when I was young. Only thing is I found it while carving up a wild pork roast... bit awkward telling mum to just pop that little bit in the bin...

Nothing exciting, Rugger 10-22 22RF SK Flatnose Basic target ammo in a trap, going to pull one tusk the other was smashed off

Yeah great story , bloody amazing condition on that Boar , shame the other tusk was broken off , its incredible how animals can heal up after getting shot , years ago I shot a stag that had been shot in the neck a week earlier with a .243 , there was no sign of infection and he would of healed up no doubt had I not bowled him over with a 30 06.

Almost sorry I asked Greg. Would have thought a ballistics afficionado such as yourself would have spent time at the rifle rack, deeply comtemplating the decision of which cartridge was the sexiest for doing the job. If 22RF was the best you could come up with it leaves me wondering about you "southern men" ! :

Not really a lot of ballistic calculations required at that range or horse power for that matter

I could have introduced him to a .338 160 TTSX out of my pig thermal rifle at 2550-2600fps but decided that was the last resort if I couldn't convince him to go into the trap
