I managed to sneak away for a short trip down south with the father-in-law and my brother. The plan was simple — drop a vehicle off in Greymouth and make the most of it by tagging on a quick hunt along the West Coast. Our main goal was to get the old boy onto his first chamois, and the mission couldn’t have gone much better. With only a few nights tucked away in some beautifully remote country, we managed to pull off a great little adventure. The father-in-law secured himself a tidy 8.5-inch chamois buck, while I was lucky enough to take a 9 6/8 inch buck of my own. We timed the weather perfectly too — crisp mornings, calm days, and clear views across the ranges. It turned out to be a rewarding trip, and it was good to see there are still a few chamois hiding around the same country I’d hunted in the past.![]()
