Run into this at morgan hut - durville valley, lake rotoroa. Assuming it was found somewhere in the durville valley & left at the hut.
Surely someone on here knows the owner & story behind it

That’s Dundees rifle
He shoots Hares at 300 m with it one handed while the other holds a DB
Its been watching a clearing for a few yrs thats for sure.Better register it quick.
are you going to chop it and put a suppressor on and a CF stock?
Parker hale?
Give the serial number to the police and end their misery of searching for a grey firearm, Carhill should be told to remove it from his list:D
Give it a go…
should buff out OK..... if scope is leupold send it back for a service LOL.
Anything in the mag, up the spout?
It’s Bunjis backup rifle with a folding stock, he uses it when he’s emptied the mag on his first rifle and doesn’t have time to reload it while mowing down hordes of 11”+ chamois.
He lost the backup rifle when it also emptied and he dropped it while he ran after some wounded chamois to finish them off with his knife…
I put that in the hut. Found it on a shingle fan.
Looks like the scope has been shot.
@6.5 CRD Party of 4, out on sat by any chance?

Was it busy up the lake over the weekend?
$1500 at guncity?
Not really at least it didn't seem like it. Was only one tramper at the durville hut when we tied up the boat, and a couple of parties of fisherman when we came back to get it.
Seen a note in the book friday that there was a party of 4 up at morgans.....

Unusual for Labor weekend. Any luck?
First DB.
Now Double Brown.
What’s next? Ranfurly?
Honestly…….
@Dundee, how is your 50th birthday present going? Gone?
Nice! You have actually met my brother, when we got back to the durville he recognised your stabi, said he has run into you up there before.
We spent a few days up at/above morgans, got one grumpy old stag was the only deer we saw over the whole trip, dissapointing. Wish we went over into the tiraumea instead :XD:
There’s been the odd rifle lost up there over the years. 40 odd years ago one hunter put his white painted Mannlicher rifle down on the snow while he dealt with a Chamois he’d shot. Never saw it again.
Put a FMJ through it, clear the rust...
haha thats a beauty. I know of atleast two stainless tikkas in rivers, some gold hunter will find them some day.
It was a .243, but thanks to the rust it is now .308.
Still plenty of eels around the jetty?
I suppose if you could get the scope off if you boiled the action and electrolysis the action you could have a wall hanger with a story
I wonder whether finding that is a trigger event. Ha ha ha ha
Around 30 years ago a fella list a rifle around the Mt Cedric area of Rotoroa, had glassed his first chamois and took off to stalk it leaving his rifle behind. His initials were DM

Another found rifle. Just a few months ago. Stainless shortened (Tikka??) with pic rail and red dot. Obviously not tied on well enough to someone's raft.

We found a .22 leaning against a tree up the whakatane River a few yrs ago.It had been there for years.
20 yrs ago a not so on it farm manager was presented with his disced up rifle by the tractor driver.
He reckons, I wondered where that was.
True story
