I went out for an overnight north of kaikoura with the plans of getting something for the freezer. Not really fussy about what so I figured at least I'd have a decent chance of some goats.
In I walked and started up the hill.
No more than an hour in and I saw two billies watching me from about 100m away.
"No" thought I wisely, "my wife doesn't like the gaminess of Billy. I should see if there are any nannies"
So I waited for about 30min and no nannies were seen, eventually the billies walked off so I continued.
Two hours later, glassing a face I saw two pigs, a big one and a small one, about 200m away. The big one stepped into some scrub and the little one stayed there broadside to me
"Hah" I thought wisely "the big one will come back to see its mate, and it will fill the freezer much better than the little one, I'll wait"
So I sat there and watched the little pig for an hour until he walked away. The big one never came back.
I didn't see another animal the whole time. I'm pretty sure there's some sort of moral in this.
