    A late night stake out

Just back from a late night stake out...

A mate has had a fair bit of this show up in one of his paddocks lately.

When I first saw it I thought...what a bloody mess, surely there must be more than one? Set up a camera and yep 4 of the buggers.

I headed out to his place tonight once the kids were in bed and off down to set up in the paddock.

Borrowed a couple of hay bales and sat down behind those about 100m back from where he thought they were coming under the fence.

After about an hour or so we started to hear the odd noise in the scrub behind the fence. A breaking stick, the sound of moving scrub, another breaking stick. Then a snuffle and even a few grunts

Slowly they got closer and closer coming down the hill towards the paddock. First time I've thought "man a thermal would be awesome right now".

But that we didn't have so we just kept on waiting, and listening for an eternity in the pitch blackness.

Eventually we could hear what sounded like feeding. Surely they must be in the paddock by now?

So the only thing for it was to get ready, flick on the maxtoch and hope....."you ready bro?" "Yep"

I was already behind the rifle and looking through the scope when the lights went on expecting to see pigs everywhere

NOTHING...there was nothing there, what? What the hell? We could hear them for the last hour so where did they go??

I was just lying there looking through my scope feeling a little bemused when two eyes rose up out of the grass on the edge of the scrub.

I kid you not but those eyes came up on either side of the cross hairs. PERFECT...Boom!!

Never saw the other ones at all. Which means if the paddock destruction doesn't stop I'm picking there will be another late night stake out happening soon.

    Not bad for a Thursday.

    Hot barrels all

Top work ! Im hoping to smoke me some rabbits the same way this weekend, they keep on digging up my lawn and have been getting closer and closer
( they hang out in a paddock which is next to my front lawn). They wait till we have gone to bed and come into the section.

Awesome! That exact situation is why I bought a cheap thermal.

Been up to some butchery this evening. Had a cool find that I thought some of you reloading wizards might be interested in.....

Entry between the eyes slightly right of centre. Recovered from against the neck.

I'm not a reloading wizard so hence the end of the box for details. Done the job nicely tho

Holy shit Micky glad i didnt find this one at the second nipple, would have made a hua of a mess of some tasty meat !!

My neck call may have been slightly misleading tho. Against the spine, directly above the front shoulder would be a better description

PS : we got the apple sauce is sorted

Nice. They will be back, shooting hardly scares them out of the area
A few possoms or a sack of corn would entice them out
