Thread: Solo labour weekend trip

Weather looked promising for a weekend away, had been planning a few options for a couple of days and trying to get people to come along but no luck.

Headed west on sat morning, nice and icy up arthurs pass.

Had a good few days looking around. Set up camp quickly, the ground was so frozen it made putting pegs in a bit tricky.

Headed up creek and wasnt long before i spotted my first animals, a couple of young chamois dead in the river GREAT! Bit dissapointing as no meat at all was taken, didnt even take the heads... Weird.

Anyway pushed on a few more hundred metres and spotting a lone doe on a knob. Got nice and close and let her live.

Dont no what the temp was up there but must of been pretty cold as everything was frozen including sleeping bag outer.... glad i took some warm gear. Was a bit annoying boiling water every morning just so i could get my feet in my boots...

Was playing the old "i wonder how thick this ice is" one to many times and feel through, boot was pretty solid the next morning.

Didnt see anymore animals until the chopper was due in 40mins, a lone buck was up real high, after a bit of waving and whistling i had him coming down to me fast. I headed up to meet him, sure enough 30m in front of me he was and he got polaxed with a amax. Quick capping job so i could use a his headskin for another mount and i was back off down hill. Luck the chopper was a bit late.
