    Sunday Stroll (armed hiking)

Sunday brought the best weather that Woodville had seen for some time, so after much pleading with the other half I decided to head off on a bit of a recon mission into the southern end of the Ruahines for a recon. Arrived on mountain top around 1pm and headed off north along the DOC track with the stop watch on to see how far/how fast the little legs could travel. Made it to this spot after about an hour of log hopping and flax tripping down a separate ridge to the marked track. Sat down and had a glass over the basin just for a laugh (it was 2pm at this time), low and behold Mrs Bambi was on a clearing about a km away, I looked at dog, dog looked at me, I looked at watch, the Mrs voice rang through the head about dinner with parents, the brain comprehended all this data and decided to just sit and watch Mrs Bambi and observe for next time.

After about 20 mins of happily grazing and looking around for awhile she disappeared into the bush on the western side while I munched on the sandwich and soaked up the sun Mrs Bambi slunk off into the bush on the Western side. I packed myself up, gave the dog a good talking to for sleeping on the job and headed back. I decided to push it a fair amount harder on the way back just to see what time I could shave off if I was really in a hurry, got back to the car 15 mins quicker than the walk in.

It's days like this when I really appreciate our beautiful country, you can't beat the hill on a good day.
