    80 series ute conversion ?

    Hi all,
Has anyone done a 80 series chop to a flat deck ? Had a run in with a hilux and the back end is abit dinged up, so might use it as a excuse to put a flat deck on it.
Any thoughts, experience, costs, recommendations would be great !
    thanks

There's one rocking around Invercargill. A guy Mike owns it now. He's involved in dairy shed engineering but I don't know any more than that.

Looks like his machine has actually had the chassis extended too......

Where R u based? Might be an idea to go to the local garage an see if they have done one. Seen a couple of safaris that have been done. There's a 100series I saw in rangers that was extended with an extra axle so anything can be done!

There is a few around...an outfit in chch was doing them but very spendy from what I remember.
There is a couple in Nelson one with a tag axle and 5th wheel.

They were a good idea when hiluxes had anemic naturally aspirated diesels but now well why would you?

Panelcraft in Ashburton do the chop as well. Seen some nice work done there.

I know a guy that set up a fleet of Safaris with Hilux trays on the back for work in Africa. Got around a tax of 300% if they sent in as a station wagon.

Toms Offroad and Customs in CHCH, he can help you out if you have a plan of what you want to achieve.

Not an 80, but here is a link to a KJZ78 a mate up north chopped at home. Might give you ideas.

Also check out some Australian 4x4 sites, they love chopping Safaris and Cruisers up
