Being in mid 70’s, my purchase is intended to be my last vehicle. One of our sons can have it when I get really old. Interestingly, the display yard vehicles often have (say) towbar and tray liner fitted, but dealer adds that cost to advertised price. Furthermore, a canopy is not that much more expensive than an aluminium flat lid. Although my wife was sliding further into the salesmans office chair, I negotiated a satisfactory deal, as had been liaising with another outlet too.
Yip always n2st to shop around..
I hate a lot of the new “safety features” on newer cars.
Have driven a few different cars with them now and they go from being mildly annoying to dangerous, drove a KIA in the UK that constantly was trying to steer the car into other cars as I was on narrow roads trying to dodge potholes. I had to remember to turn lane departure off everytime I started the vehicle.
The auto dipping headlights were shite too, most of the time they didn’t dip when a car was coming towards us, or even went from dipped to high beam when a car appeared.
The only auto feature I’ve found I like is rain sensing wipers, so long as you keep the windscreen clean they work really well.
Just finished hiring a new Corolla, hybrid with CVT in Japan.
A really nice vehicle actually, I’ve not usually been that keen on Toyotas but the new RAV4s I’ve driven and this Corolla have been nice.
Didn’t mind the hybrid system, I can definitely see some benefits to it, didn’t like the CVT though.
Generally I like Autos, if you have tip-tronic and TC lock up in every gear then there is very little downside vs a manual.
Wouldn’t want one without tiptronic these days though, CVT was really annoying you couldn’t select a gear for going down steep hills, it would go from idle revs and me using a lot of brakes, up to revving to 5000rpm and no brakes required but without me knowing what it was going to do.
I also couldn’t help but think a CVT with a hybrid system is stupid as it doesn’t let you make the most of regenerative braking on hills.
I’d comfortably by a Hybrid Toyota, they’ve been making hybrids for 25years which are usually pretty reliable, but for something for towing/work/offroad not sure I want a CVT or a non-tiptronic auto.
I'd agree with that - the CVT transmissions do take a little getting used to and you feel like you are hard on the brakes the entire time downhill. Proper hybrid is good as well, although I do not think I would get a plug in one with the current pricing structure. That's one of the things I don't see the point of with the new hybrid hilux, the ones I have had experience of just do not seem to have any advantage I can actually measure in any metric compared to the non-hybrid version doing the same role. Virtually identical fuel consumption, last time I looked 0.1L/100Km in favour of the non-hybrid version or close enough to be identical.
In comparison, the hybrid corolla vs a non-hybrid is definitely showing a fuel consumption advantage to the hybrid vehicle. I think the hilux hybrid is more marketing and climate commission advantage for Toyota than any benefit to the vehicle owners, which is a shame and a missed opportunity from my driver's seat.
Yip but unfortunately that's how they come now. But I changed my mind from a manual.
Just took one for a drive.. man really nice the cruiser. Asked about the battery they said they just replace the cells that are no good . There price is $200 a cell. They don't replace the whole battery
Got the new sr5 cruiser yesterday. Curent promotion got another $2500 off the accessories price. So that was a bonus. I think the tray is definitely bigger than the navara .width and length.
Yeah and comes with a 230volt.socket in the centre console.. can't really think of anything I need to plug in but the boys at smoko figured the toasty sandwich machine would be good.lol
Should be able too the toasty machine we used today was 650w can take 1000watt although the manual says 10amps which is close to 2400w. I'll give a food report on how the Sammy's turned out when I use it.
Slowly breaking in the engine done 300ks . Manual says can tow after 800ks.. that should be right for easter .
I was a Toyota man through and through - Hilux, Surf, 1986 Landcruiser that I still have as farm only. I ended up buying a D-Max at the recommendation of Chris Trundle back in 2018 and I can say that it does the trick. Had 3 recalls to fix issues - front guard rusting - replaced; Rear bushes - replaced and last of all the turbo was whining and Isuzu replaced with a new Turbo and gave me a 5 year warranty on the new Turbo unit. Absolutely no complaints. Unlike other utes I looked at pretty much everything is made by Isuzu and they were primarily a truck company so it should have a solid pedigree. I think Toyotas today are quite flimsy and they have lost the plot for rugged vehicles. My Isuzu is basic inside which is what I like. I was offered a really good trade in last year on a new D-Max but turned it down because they have now gone up market as well and they have all those annoying electronic warning devices that are totally out of place and useless on a farm. IMO anyway.
FWIW, have just clocked 1000 Km with new D Max. Avge fuel consumption is 8.3 litres/100, which isn’t bad for a 3litre turbo diesel.
Tbh. There are so.many utes out there and you hear dint buy this and don't buy that about every brand . They all have their faults. Bit like buying a boat never find the perfect one . Gotta just be happy and not look back. I did like the look.of the isuzu . It looked nice in the white colour they do. If I didn't buy a toyotoa I would have probably bought a dmax myself.
Yeah, that's correct. I chuckle every time I hear someone moan that their ute won't do XYZ but their mates does it fine. All the modern offerings are so close in specs, power, torque and gearing that if one won't do it and another will the reason is there is a fault with the one that won't.
In cab features and external aesthetics have more impact now. And the stupid "safety" features...
Really enjoying the ute. Got a heap of power but just being easy atm. Running it in. Doing 8.7l per 100. But varying the revs alot to not keep at same rev range.
