I think in today's age you will find it gutless, my first cruser was a 80 Series auto 12v non turbo and thought it was pretty good but I think if you drove a turbo 24v you wouldn't even look at it.

Why, do they drive non-turbo Landcruisers? I shave my beard off occasionally if that counts.

I'd take my 2007 hilux over the cruiser. I had the 1HZ cruiser and was great for pulling heavy load, but slow on the get up and go dept.
The manual hilux can do both and has been good all rounder so far, just clocking over 107k now.

The 1HZ is a great motor, non turboed makes it reliable and given it's a flat 6 it sounds and performs better than a non turboed 3b. The 3b always sounded to me like someone was rattling some rocks in a can. The 1hz sounds like the gruny 6 cyl it is.

Yes the manuals are lower geared in top, makes them much much more driveable IMO especially in the turbo, standard tires etc auto should be doin 2400rpm locked up in top (4th) manual 2750rpm around about depending on rev counter accuraccy etc

Hope you have better luck than me. Good luck getting 300,000kms out of a d4d hilux without throwing some serious coin at it. My 07 hilux was the most expensive vehicle I have ever run. Cost me thousands. Haha
