    Mitsubishi delica

Had an idea of maybe swapping out the ute for a 4wd van. Something like the delica, anyone got any info on them and what the tow rating is?

It's just an idea at this stage.

FWIW my wife's colleague had a 4th gen Space Gear L400 imported from Japan by an agent, early this year. 2006 (?). They love it.

l400 is basically a gen2 pajero - 4m40t diesel,LSD rear. can do anything a pajero can (got one of these for hunting myself)
d5 delica is only a 2.4 with CVT - I have the AWD one as my daily, would not recommend for towing with the cvt but great runaround and the dog loves it

DM if you want any further details

Yep don't want a CVT, Delica was just the first van that came to mind as not sure what other 4WD vans are out there.

Big thing though is we would not consider any van where we would be sitting in front of the front wheels like the Hi-Ace etc.

Its just an idea at this point and nothing will probably happen until sometime next year as we have a big trip to Europe next year.

Two mates have them and love them, apart from being top heavy they are very capable off road. One of them is kitted out really well. It's got a terrano spare tire swing attached to a custom rear bar and a winch on 32s.

Hi im on my second L400 DELICA
Being rather tall they dont fit under trees that well
the plastic radiator and header tank sometimes cause issues i stripped all the rear seats from mine and use as a work van tows a large 4 tandom tralier well and backing this up an incline real easy with low 4x4
saw one the other day on a lot larger tyres and a toyota v8 that just bolted right to the box . Can go a long way off road too

Had two 2.8, as Liam said it is a Pajero with a van body. If you tow with it often the best to do is to fit an EGT gauge. I was towing a 2.5T Haines with it and would have cracked the head on long hill not monitoring the EGT.

Had to look that up as had no idea what an EGT was.

Potential uses would be hunting wagon and pulling a 2T caravan if we decide to go down this route. I would probably look at going diesel rather than petrol.

    What other 4wd vans exist?

Bit hard excluding Hi Ace but have a look at a Ford Transit

Yeah 2T caravane I wouldn't do it without monitoring EGT uphill. There is a 4wd sprinter version but they are quite expensive, and not as good offroad. Then Iveco daily, I wouldn't touch one heaps of mechanical issue.
