    Quick Tyre Question "Maxxis"

    Hi ya

Need new tyres. Have had two offers made to me both good offers

Option 1 Maxxis Mudder Buckshot in 15 "

    Option 2 Maxxis M/T Bighorn 764 in 17"

Already have hilux rims to suit either.

This vehicle has no winch. Has diff lock and traction control though , Hopefully wont need it

Main use will be light river crossing sharp stony area , then a wet river flat

Other than that a bit of wet paddock (sometimes muddy ) work.

I already have been told the Bighorn tyres are noisy but that what the volume switch is for

Which way to go is the burning question.

I've had both, preferred the 764s on my patrol. Gibo has (or at least had) them on his truck too. Also I found the 764s really quiet for a muddy

I like the smaller rim option because it gives more room for tyre. This will give a softer more forgiving ride in the rough but a bit more roll in the corners on the road.

I assume this is for the FJ Cruiser? Have you made sure 15" rims will fit over the disc brakes?
I've been running Buckshot Mudders the last 2 winters, nothing special basically a traditional mudgrip. Fairly quiet on the road.

Think it's more for the electrolux so he doesn't need to be towed up the hill again at Brads place this year.

From memory the Buckshot tread is a bit more closed up so should wear better on the road, but will clog quicker in the sticky stuff. I have 764s and I think they are a good tyre for the price, I get quite a bit of road noise but yeah, the stereo works still. 764 would definitely be better off road but the bighorn may be a better compromise if you do quite a few road kms and not too much rough stuff off road. If doing quite a bit of river driving especially with soft gravels, the less aggressive your tyres the better as they don't tend to dig through the surface of the gravel so easily
