    RUC increases

I see on the NZTA web site

    Light vehicle owners
If you bought too much RUC and your current RUC licence will last you past 31 July 2023, you'll need to buy a new RUC licence in July. Make sure you enter your current distance reading when you buy the new licence, and the system will credit you back any unused RUC
I don't get it? What is judged as "too much RUCs"? surely if you currently have RUCs and use them up you can just buy new ones later in the year when they run out? Say I buy RUC's before the end of the month at the cheap rate will they credit me back RUC's at the price paid (old rate) or will I get a reduced number of rucs back (charged at new rate).

They only dropped them 33% or something so they are putting the price up at the same time? That’s a bit cheeky when the whole point was cost of living. It would be like them putting the price of fuel up 35 cents a litre when they only dropped it 25

I reckon they are just blustering. For Joe average who always buys in 10K increments I doubt they will follow up. But for a big trucking firm that just purchased 50K RUC for a fleet of 30 tonne trucks...yes, they may decide to follow up given it was a saving of 50%

Blame the push for EVs. They don't pay and fuel tax or RUCs

Should be, they aren't paying anything to use the roads except their rego which is small compared to a years worth of fuel tax or runs.
The government wants to trick more people into evs before slapping taxes onto them.

dam right rumpy , think of the extra wear and tear on our roads for a start with the extra weight these are light trucks not cars and should be ruc'ed as that , not to mention the carnage of a ev in a crash at speed .
For example, the 2023 GMC Hummer EV, a full-size pickup, weighs more than 9,000 pounds, sporting a 2,900-pound battery. In comparison, the 2023 GMC Sierra, also a full-size pickup, weighs less than 6,000 pounds.

Ev's do more damage to the road than petrol equivalents as their weight is significantly higher.

especially when they catch fire ,which seems to be more frequently than old skool vehicles they carry around litres of flamable liquid
