I hear ad blue does a good job of fuking things. Dont accidently use it yourself
Happened to us a couple of years ago.
We put a game camera up in the tree nxt to the tank.
They came back, we got some excellant photos, which were put in the local paper.
Perps were recognized and arrested within a week [emoji106]
In our case it turned out they were selling the fuel so an additive would have just stuffed someone else's gear.

Additive can be a good idea but remember when your gear is parked up overnight the favor could be returned in retaliation.
Round up
Yes it does an awesome job. AdBlue is highly corrosive and in most cases everything it touches needs to be replaced. If the vehicle it is in is run until the engine stops then the whole fuel system needs to be replaced, sometimes the engine will need to be either rebuilt or replaced. Usually can get away with a fuel tank flush as they are now plastic. a $10k repair is not uncommon.
I heard of a situation years ago where a guy was getting firewood stolen. Put up with it for a while. Then decide to find out who it was.
Put a detonator in one of the huhu holes and plugged it up.
A while later his kids came home from school with a story about someone's fireplace blowing up.
Gotcha.
Karma is a wonderful thing!
What would happen if you were mixing water with the diesel?
What would happen if you were mixing petrol with diesel?
Petrol in Diesel has a similar result to AdBlue but not quite to the same extent. Usually can get away with a fuel system flush but once again if the engine has been run until it has stopped then a lot of fuel system parts will require replacing, although it really depends on the ratio of petrol to diesel.
I believe water in diesel will just make the engine stop and not much else although the fuel system would still need a flush out.
It was more where it was left and if they had just taken the diesel and left the containers it would have been oh well shit happens, to be honest haven't check the machine yet. which was all locked up including cab.
I had a thing when I first started with a guy in contracting, we were running a little honda motor to run one of the little bits of gear as well as a bigger diesel powered pump. Needed to refuel the Honda at regular intervals, grabbed the petrol can and filled it up all day and just about used the 20L can.
End of the day, ready for the diesel powered pump - Boss "where's the f**ken diesel, the diesel can is EMPTY!!!!!"...
Um, dunno, did you fill it up? Hang on, the yellow container is full! Boss: "That's petrol!" - with a look on his face like what kind of halfwit have I hired that doesn't know that!
Rest of the crew looks at me, looks at the full yellow can I'm holding, looks at the Honda (still running happily I might add), looks at the completely confused look on my face (total does not compute) and then back at the boss and as one they all start cracking up. Leading hand picks up the yellow can, reads it out in front of the boss - "D - I - E - S - E - L"... Um, not the new guys fault there boss chortle chortle...
So probably no point mixing petrol in the diesel as unless the thing is a relatively modern one you need a lot of petrol in there to make sure that the thing it's getting tipped in will actually stop. Some things are very tolerant of crappy fuel! Better option I think is something like the red dye that some people use in process diesel to ensure the fuel is mixed in - that will ensure that the evidence is right the way through the engine and fuel system of whoever is flogging the fuel and it can't be removed. Won't damage it, so no issue there but the evidence is plain and undeniable that the fuel could only have come from that source and it's hot as hell. Combined with CCTV or trailcam footage - got yas.
I work for one of the big four oil companies. As above, Adblue will fark everything. Whole fuel system at a minimum needs replacing.
I’ve seen a few of the reports come through for insurance purposes.
Youd have to pull stuff apart to catch the guy and then what, if hes unlucky might get a severe lashing with a wet bus ticket. Personally Id get more satisfaction knowning his gear is fuked.
Sugar or fine metal filings.
your not going to fuck an engine by adding a bit of petrol to diesel. go ask my wife how we know...
In the old days in colder countries petrol was sometimes added as an "additive" to prevent the diesel from freezing by the way...
good luck catching/punishing these low lifes.
Unfortunately your unlikely to win this one if you spike the fuel.
It's a continuing problem in forestry and the potential cost of damage to gear has to be considered.
Locks only slow honest people.
A couple of decent cameras out of reach is an option.
I am aware of a number of cameras being stolen.
Possibly located with night vision gear from the IR flash.
The thieves in the Kaiangaroa Forest area are professionals.
Stealing thousands of $ of fuel and gear in a night.
I have an old Holden Rodeo. 550 plus kms on the clock. In the winter I'll occasionally put a couple of liters of petrol in it. Goes like a rocket.
Know a guy who has a six cylinder landcruiser
That thing runs on just about anything. Jet fuel, kero, and even petrol to get him home.
I knew 2 guys with old diesel Corollas that ran them on used engine oil & petrol. 25% petrol summer and 50% in the winter.
I would like to add the wanganui river to the list pennyless.
I wouldn't bother, you'll contaminate your bowser for a start. Sand and sugar won't do shit, it'll settle out in their fuel cans, you'll still have it in the bowser. Petrol and adblue (ad-blyat) smell, so they'll possibly realise and burn your site down or whatever. The risk exceeds the reward for any kinda additive shenanigans, just catch the pricks in person or on camera and make it not worth their while.
Fuck I hate crackheads, shouldn't have to live like this
could tip a couple of big bots of waikato into the fuel...
Very Wise Tommy... yes, its sucks and we shouldn't live like this but that's reality.
I had my diesel can stolen a couple of times and thought of putting another can with some water in the can to get them back but for this reason above ↑ .. I decided not to do anything.
The only idea on here I agree with is using a dye in the diesel and some good cameras or a bloody evil mean dog take your pick
In a real modern diesel if it got past the fuel filter/ water separator if will stuff the high pressure injectors, seen it happen in the four wheel drive club
We just built and commissioned a new service station. It has an underground Adblue tank with a dual dispenser, one end of the dispenser is Adblue and the other end is diesel, both clearly marked with signage plus when you insert your card into the OPT it prompts you to accept warning you that you have pressed the Adblue icon.
All on cctv is some turkey pulls in, stands in front of the dispenser scratching is noggin, inserts card, pulls the Adblue nozzle and fills his Ranger, drives off.
Day later calls the gas station demanding they pay $30k for a new engine, it’s going to court in a few weeks so will let you know what happens.
I recall hearing someone in the bulk fleet somehow dropping adblue into the diesel at one outfit - that was an INSURANCE claim if I have it right.
I know 3 forum members that have had an Adblue rodeo, 2 were wives, 1 an employee
Apparently Brasso works a treat in removing the cylinder linings, just something I heard....
knew of a guy years back who accidentally topped up the engine oil in his mazda rotary with roundup. was a real mess
The guy I mentioned above had no insurance so is going the gas station direct, the gas stations insurance company are all over it but the guy isn’t giving up. The cctv footage is clear as day but I’m not the judge.
Really drives home the importance of labeling containers, haven't had a proper stuff up yet but I've found all sorts of shit in all sorts of containers in farm workshops. Had a guy ring me because he had run side by side out of fuel so I grabbed a 20l fuel container from workshop that was half full and made my way to where he was, opened fuel container to put the nozzle on and straight away smelt it was straight chlorine! If it was the Nepalese guys without me around they would have just put it in the side by side without a second thought
