Thread: Tips and tricks on new bike.

Hey team, just picked up a new quad for hunting. Will be fitting a gun rack to the front
(Double style) and maybe a tool/gear box on the front also. Pretty keen to leave the rear empty.

Any tips on anything else?

Should go good for what I want it for.

It's a 2003 so getting older now and does blow a small amount of smoke etc but I'm only going to use it a few times a year

Add a winch if your going into rough places.

It's like having another bike there to tow you out when ever you get stuck.

And having a cigarette lighter jack on it has its uses. Charging phones or torch batteries, and for plugging in a solar charger to keep the battery topped up so its not flat when you want to use it. Dad got one for his quad and while it wont charge a flat battery, it puts out enough juice t stop the battery dying when its not in use for extended periods. Especially seeing as it wont be getting regular use.

Yeah I'll be getting that set up for spotlighting too, save needing to run batteries

Heated grips for winter shooting, and handlebar mitts (CRT has mitts quite cheap).
Tank saddle bags for quick access to ammo or torch batteries.
LED lights instead of the std lights. Less currant draw and much better light. Single light bar or couple of smaller lamps. @scottrods has a pretty good light setup on his Yammy. And extended range fuel tank.

At least get a back board on the rear carrier makes life much easier carrying stuff and you can still carry a passenger

Twin needle made me some tank saddle bags. I put my torches in there and spare batteries, fired cases, gloves and sunglasses/safety glasses.

I have a pair of Rotopax tanks mounted on the rear carrier, giving me a further 15L of fuel.

2x18W flood LEDs on the low beam and 2x18W Spot LEDs on the high beam, replacing the original lights.

Scottrods what sort of range or hours do you get out of a tank?
I havent used 4wheelers that much but have never got close to running out.....tho I have never spent all night spotlighting off of one either.

Going by shape and colour I would say he's in carb territory
Nothing like being prepared tho
But my 700 efi will go ages on a tank

Depends on the use and location. Carb needs a rebuild as its overfueling from a sticking float valve - the bits are in the garage but @cambo is too busy playing with himself to help anyway back on topic...I used it on a farm for about 4hrs chasing hares one evening and ran out - to reserve. But On the roo shoots, it will run on a tank all day because there are plenty of steep tracks and I have a heavy thumb. I went up to the DOC boundary on the poulter - 17km and back, plus two runs of half that, on one tank - just slinking along. No real effort.

That setup will give me a good long weekend if I'm only going to a hut and walking up and down hills. I'd rather have more than I need than to run out.

We have/had a suzuki vinsion 500 that we would get 90km from a tank running around the farm.
At landcorp the Shepards would get 80-90km towing a trailer around, that was Honda 420s.
Now looking at a replacement as the suzukis gearbox went bang and locked up

Barely have time for that even @scottrods. With half the 2KCup field knocking on my door for help, I'm having trouble doing my own stuff.
Haven't even got round to sighting in the AR, or even play with the new 20tac toy.
Will eventually get round to finishing the quad though. Once the spare lounge suit gets picked up (this week I hope), I'll finally have room in the garage to actually work on things at home.
