Manuals nowadays are not the same as old, mostly due to the dual mass flywheels. Possibly the only benefit to a manual is control of the gear selection, but then most drivers these days can't drive a manual at all and most company buyers are refusing manuals for that reason. Demand = supply...
I happily set my driving style to what suits me in the manual - the "caterpillar crawl" start-stop that automatic drivers do just doesn't suit a manual, but crawling along in 1st or 2nd at 5-15Km/H consistently while everyone bunches up and stops in front of you and everyone behind you starts mashing their teeth works well. The only issue is when you get a gap in front of you opening up 50,000 idiots think they can jam into it at the same time!
