It’s an 2002 with 230k on it but condition and driving it you would think it just come off lot, I’ve been told that some of these have more power than others and this one definitely a step up from my other ones

I’ve got one of these as well. Bought at 310k in 2017 and now it’s got 430km still going strong. I highly recommend joining the KZN165 owners Facebook group. Lots of knowledge in there for these. Great utes that never say no

Great model, very tidy looking Ute. I have the same model but 3.4 v6. Definitely the best shape of hilux, but I’m super bias lol

Yup, Ive had one of them. Great machine.

Keep the services up. Change the coolant every year.

Check radiator, water pump and thermostat.

The thing that kills most older utes is overheating and lack of oil / lubrication.

I think those canopy glass bits are hard to get hold of now - but a useful workaround is polycarbonate material in smoke or darker from a plastics place. Still a little spendy but better than not being able to get the correct glass...

Your kilometres are low, if you think of it as an average distance travelled every year. 10,000 km per annum isn’t much and less than the average which I think is 14,000km.

Do you have much in the way of service history?

The main thing to concentrate on is preventative maintenance. Making sure nothing goes wrong that causes much bigger problems. I would be checking the cooling system and lubrication. Belt, pulley, water pump, hoses, thermostat, coolant condition. Change the oil regularly and next time you do see if you can get a borescope into the sump to see how much sludge, if any, is sitting in there. Visually check the pickup. Ditto through the filler cap and into the rocker cover.

The 1KZ-TE is a good engine but they need looking after as they get older and there’s lots of good information online about them.

Best oil for them is Mobil Delvac 15w40 ESP

Its a FEO oil designed for extreme use

No probs with EGR for the later models

    10,000 km changes with filter
