I'm all for this, I hate the tactics and pressure used by salesmen and they're effectively adding no value to the product yet taking a decent cut.

We'll see how it pans out, seems to work in most other areas of retail.

I'm picking the good salesfolk will move on to other brands or second hand. I'm with you, I think it will be better for the average customer without much purchasing leverage.

I think it will a good thing for the customer as it will make it the same for everyone.
I have owned heaps of hiluxs right back to my first 1981 hilux but earlier this year changed to a holden colorado.
This was because i was that annoyed with Toyota giving farmers an extra $4000 discount for being a Farmlands shareholder but not the same deal for regular Toyota customers that have always been loyal to the company.

Yeup...............thats exactly what I did too. And the eventual replacement to the colorado will also be a holden

There's something I find oddly compelling about the visuals of seeing that many cars just parked up, a bit like the USAF "boneyard" where they have all of the old planes out in the desert

The only ones that will make anything from a new sale will be TNZ. Dealers are almost cut right out of it.
Dunno how the sales team will make money. They got a shitty retainer and had to rely on commission to make any money. Now they'll be on a wage or salary which dealers wont want to pay as they not making anything to cover that.
Prices will have to be dramatically reduced to keep customers and attract new buyers.
Problem is people want a personal touch with the 2nd most expensive investment they'll make (next to their house), and making it an order online then pickup like a chinese takeaway will turn people away for sure.
Id of thought a wedding ring would be the most expensive investment? or most painful?

TNZ in its sales pitch says the new system will remove the haggle out of the deal. So how do they deal with trade-in values??

When will they do it to Real Estate? Paying at least half the commission to a fat cat you never meet or see is just wrong!

What drives me nuts with Real estate is the customer pays for all the selling expenses including the advertising and the agent takes the commission but no real risk as any dramas with the property fall back onto the vendor.
Imagine selling your car like that

What happens if you have problems with your new toyota? will it be like parallel imports? will your local dealer say piss off and go and see toyota as we made nothing out of it so why should we bend over backwards to help? I guess they'll push second hand vehicles' parts and servicing and detour people from buying new as thats where the money is for them. This could bite toyota in the bum. I know a lot of companys have bought directly from them for years and get good discount. If toyota takes a hard line with it's dealers, who would want to take on a franchise where really you'll only be able to service and sell expensive original parts? Anyone could specialise in selling second hand ones and bringing in parts and do better

My son just bought a house, involved two agents, his and the vendors, my son looks fairly young for his 38 yrs and they have 3 young children. Took a view thru the place and the vendors agent asked my sons agent if they could actually afford the house and he didn’t want to waste his time, my son was furious, the professionalism of these guys is amazing! Anyway he bought the house and paid the ransom, only good thing it was split 3 ways. The govt should dissolve the realestate institute and let it operate more as the used car sales do, remember the doom and gloom as to what was going to happen without the dealer principals? Cleaned is up nicely. Competition has that affect!
