    Tyre compressors

    Looking at compressors for 4WD tyre inflation - planning to run 265x75R16 ATs or similar on my Triton. What brands are good/bad and what airflow & psi ratings are suitable? Usage will be occasional rather than frequent. Quick look on TM, they have up to 200 psi, what's the point when tyres are no more than 40 psi? And are deflators worthwhile?Any advice appreciated. cheers

    I’ve got an arb branded one under the bonnet, it works though painfully slow. A deflator would be handy, bit quicker than a simple gauge and manually opening the valve.

    Works for me in Oz,3 1/2 mins from 20 to 42 psi,per tyre.
    Two deflaters,and a guage.

    I got one from Repco. Seems to work ok on horse float tyres. Not sure the specs of it though.

    If you or anyone you know is making a trip out from Aussie, bring back one of these https://www.emgstore.com.au/air-comp...ompressor.html Cheap as, and 160LPM, I have a similar unit from Supercheap, paid way more and its only 70 LPM (which works fine) but the Thumper is way faster. Mate in Aussie has one which we used to inflate his tyres after airing down for the beach.

    @ROKTOY has one that works quick enough

    Missus got me an airhawk.... It is slow but has a cut off once it reaches a set pressure which is awesome. Go for the deluxe version and you get the battery pack so you don't need to take a loaded trailer off to pump tyres up then re attach damn cigarette cable was a foot short

    I'd suggest any pump that plugs into the cig lighter will not be grunty enough. To have a compressor that's powerful enough will draw way more current than can be delivered via the cig lighter. It will need to connect straight to battery.

    Most of the half decent units with have aligator clamps to connect direct to battery.

    13 amp draw,loaded.61lts/min @29psi
    It had alligator clips which I changed to Anderson plug as these are front and rear on the truck.

    Mine is just a twin compressor pump from Repco, I think it is their dearest unit from memory, I grabbed it in one of the 30% off sales a while back. It works ok. but there are better available, I just can't afford/justify the higher prices the really good ones have. If I was relying on it more I would definitely spend the $$$. A pump with a pressure tank is the way to go if you ask me as it gives you a headstart when you are pumping tyres and even the time taken moving from tyre to tyre it can catch that air and store it which saves a few more seconds too

    super cheap auto. goes hard. and I brought a "ferret" tyre deflator. works well. and simple.
    Use enough gun

    got one of the more expensive repco branded ones, works a treat, used to use it on my 31s.

    Peak pressure rating is damn near meaningless- the $10 shitters do over 100. The free air delivery is what you need to look at.

    Actually, sitting abandoned in my garage is an Air Command oilless heavy duty 12V compressor and all the accessories. Clips directly to the vehicle battery. Bought this for hunting but in reality I never take it along ;-) Might be tempted to sell it
