Thread: 65 or 75L Pack?

Hi what size do you guys use for overnighters to 3-4 day extended trips? A mate of mine recons the bigger the pack the more crap you end up carrying! I’m looking at the Macpac cascade 65 or75 as they seem like good value at the moment at around $330-360 Any comments/ideas much appreciated.

You ( & all of us) should be selective about what gear you take regardless of pack size. The 75 will allow you to carry more meat out

If it was me I’d definitely get the 75

Your mate is right it's very easy to Chuck a few more items in because you have the space. I use 55L and find it more than enough for multiple nights. So to answer your question if you are a minimalist I'd go with the 65L, if you like a few more luxuries and want room to spare get the 75l.

I'd go 65l but that dose depend how big sleeping bag packs down & if you take a tent or just a fly

I'd personally go 75 - you can always compress it down (or carry more if you need to....)

Yer true about the gear selection! The carrying meat one might not be much of a concern I seem to be more of a armed tramper at the moment(hopefully change that soon) but I just enjoying being out there!!

I have a 90l cascade because I carry all our group gear and I can pack it down when not full but I’m yet to fill it. My recommendation would be check the weight difference between the two empty packs and if it’s negligible get the 75 as Nickoli said.

or shall we just take the back steaks because there is no room in my pack. I have complained about how much weight I have to carry in, but I’ll never complain I have too much meat in my pack.

Spot on. If you're on a meat hunt you want to be able to carry as much as you can

I can do 7 days out of a 60l, just. Over nights in a 40 or 50.

My gear is all.light and compact though..75l is about right for the average hunter imo

The Cascades are pretty nice packs. I have a 65L and the 75L would probably be better on a 3-4 day hunting trip.

Another nice thing with the Cascades is if needed you can swap out the shoulder straps for a different size, to get the perfect fit for a few extra $. I have a size 2 pack and size 3 shoulder straps.

Keep an eye out for an older 75L Cascade they are awesome I only paid $170 for mine like new.

I don’t personally believe in the theory that having a smaller pack means you take less. I believe that how much you take is based on your personal discipline. Go the larger capacity, then you have ample room for meat. I use an 85L Osprey for anything one night or more. If it’s got bugger all in it then sweet as. It compresses down to the size of a smaller one but then has heaps of space if I need it when I shoot an animal.
