And they stop a lot of crap going down you neck.
A brim can interfere with your hearing though.

I really like these cactus hats. Good in winter too reducing rain on my face / glasses.

Same, go the boonie over a bucket for better sun protection. Kuiu is nice fitting, light & airy.

Yep brimmed hat in the bush, can look down and push thru scrappy branches and not get slapped/scratched in the face.

I really like my Swazi Crikey Creek Hat even when it's stonking hot outside, although: 1. not a true bucket hat, 2. doesn't seem to be sold in NZ anymore, 3. wider brim is a nuisance when carrying a high backpack. I'd buy a true bucket hat if it wasn't made of cotton like so many seem to be.

I have a huntech bucket hat (camo) and it has been great, stops all the crap going down your back, stops my ears getting sunburnt, and with the toggle in the band fits perfectly and comfortably. When they are new get them wet and shape them to what you like and they are good to go. They are silent in the scrub and not hot in the summer. If you need to replace with a beanie they also roll up easily as well to go in your daypack.

Overall, I like my Kiui Boonie. Light and comfortable with adjustable headband tension. The brim is a good size. Only annoying bit is the fabric is very "scratchy" sounding when pushing through vegetation. My hearing isn't the greatest and I don't like having it drowned out by the noise from the hat against scrub. I always imagine deer can hear the noise but don't know for certain. Still end up shooting a few despite that.

I have to flip up the back of the brim, otherwise if it rubs on my jacket hood I hear it in the quiet of the bush. Fabric is not too noisy on mine, but when the bush is quiet every little noise seems loud - especially when you can hear mysterious crunching 20m ahead.... even my breathing seems too loud then!
