It can be shit in the alps in the snow but I am not in the alps in the snow very often. You can get gas burners which run the fuel line over the cooker like a white sprits heater which solves the whole problem. I have a primus omnifuel which runs on either gas or whitespirts that does this. It's heavy as all hell and sounds like a saturn rocket when it's running but because it's using the heat of the cooker to vaporise the liquid gas (you turn the gas can upside down) it will work at any altitude. There is no reason to use liquid fuel any more.
