Thread: Down jacket. Stoney creek vs Hunters element

How quiet are these puffers I'm looking myself but everyone I've seen is very loud when you move

I have one of the wear on earth waterproof puffers. I use it as my winter jacket and it’s excellent. I bought a stuff cell from Kathmandu and it essentially vacuum packs it to a 1” thick square that I lay flat in my pack and takes up basically no room. For the other 3 seasons I use a mont bell alpine light, very light weight and extremely packable, and very warm. I find this covers me year round without being too hot or too cold and both and pretty reasonable prices

I have 2 stoney creek puffers, the first one, and one that come out recently and a Swazi one that has lasted me over 10 years.
Didn't pay for them so can't complain. Great glassing and camp gear. The Swazi is the best of all of them as far as real world warmth goes but I have at least a roll of duct tape holding that jacket together.
I have been that cold glassing/waiting that I have had both the Swazi and a SC puffer on and Wet weathers upper and lower over top of all that.
Dunno if I would ever wear one hunting but always have one packed in my day bag.
Seen MSL's jacket on a recent hunt. Looked small and thin as far as loft goes too me but he rated it while we were wet and cold for a few days.

Which of the two did you think was small and thin? The kuiu one is like a macpac uberlight, but the wear on earth one is far from small and thin

I get all sorts of good deals from there, premium gear at a fraction of new price, mostly as new, sometimes still with tags on.

A big +1 for Wear-on-earth.

Based on the comments here I decided to order one off the web page with slightly longer arms (turns out I'm a knuckle dragger where my wing span is longer than my height), to replace the Kathmandu puffer my teenage son confiscated. Next day I got a call from Blair to say that he noticed my rural delivery address and offered to upgrade me to the three layer, more waterproof fabric at no extra charge. Only sacrifice is it wouldn't pack down as much as the standard fabric. I took him up on his offer. Jacket arrived this week and I am stoked. Looking forward to some cooler weather.
