Gear you wish you kinda wish you never bought..

A Muela clip fixed point blade knife. I bought it when I didn't know much about knives

I'd post a picture of it but my dysfunctional bastard (USELESS BASTARD MC BASTARD) Acer laptop isn't playing ball, and doesn't want to know about it.

I bought the Muela much the same way I do about any piece of gear nowadays, knowing that I'd find out what it had as good points and bad, figuring it was a learning experience and the price of good gear in part was finding out about crap gear by trying some of it.

I have used other knives (Pendleton, Gerber) to cut up the deer I've shot because they are shorter, skinnier, and allow more precise work during butchery 'cause I 'm still learning and my knife skills suuck.

Some other competent hunter may use a Muela and be able to play a tune on the thing.

For me it was simply superseded by better knives.

Sounds like you should add your laptop to this list

Lost a heap of mercators during my youth and 20's. Keeping them was the issue.

Miroku MK70 - Beautiful gun. Nothing wrong with it at all, the opposite in fact, BUT totally unsuited to my duck shooting.

Lansky sharpening system - It worked (sort of), but hated using it.

Hunting & Fishing thigh waders - Heavy and waterproof as a tea bag.

Spinning rimfire target (brand?) - Everywhere I shoot had grass too long to use it.

Save Barn gun safe - Cheap as chips and kept the FAO happy, but small and couldn't get an assembled shotgun in to it.

Ridgeline and Huntech waterproof jackets, absolute rubbish. Delamination and seam seals fell off within 8 months despite fastidious maintenance.

For me, without a doubt, it would be ... damn, can't think of a thing. I never rush in to buy anything. I think, and ponder, and research, and wait for a deal.

Couple of weeks ago I bought three faulty corporate type laptops, one of them basically brand spanking and the rest not seen a lot of use, for $150. They are now all working just fine.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

I had a Savage Mod.12-VLP .204 for a while. Very accurate (once the previous owner's bodged crown job was fixed), lovely to fire from a rest or bipod, but... I didn't know what the yanks meant by "varmint rifle" at that stage and thought it would be ok for carrying up and down hills chasing goats and wallabies... 26" truck axle barrel, 10lb bare rifle plus a telescope on top and a solid stainless MAE can on the front...

Got out of it ok though - sold rifle, scope and suppressor off separately for more than I paid for them together, and used the money to buy a much more practical 223 that shoots just as well.

armalite AR10 sudanese pattern. pristine condition both internally and externally.
unreliable on moth insertion and extraction of any ammo. 2-3 jams per magazine was the norm.

All the excessive gadgets and bullshit that hunting and shooting magazines convinced me I needed.
About 4 years ago I realised that I was carrying about 4 times as much shit than I actually needed.
I whittled it down to the bare essentials but made sure those fundamental items were the best quality items I could get and afford.
Getting your arse off the couch and putting your quality boots on is where it’s at .
    Simple is best.

PS -expensive camo clothing is probably my biggest regret, and paying over the top for some flash camo pattern when climatic performance of the garment is the most important thing .
There’s an old saying - the best camo is called “ sit down and shut up “
