his low-key humour is hilarious. I've watched quite a number of videos in a similar vein in the last few years all explaining why rainwear based on "waterproof breathable" membranes just don't live up to the hype anymore. Every membrane comes with tradeoffs. The perfect waterproof breathable doesn't exist.

Agreed, I have often wondered the same.

this is why I stick with wool and oilskin where possible. If you're in the rain and working even moderately hard you will get wet, from inside or outside. the key is being able to dry off and stay warm in the meantime, 80% heat retention remaining on sodden wool from memory.

I follow him on youtube. He has a lot of interesting vids especailly around motorbikes.....And being Canadian, tends to be more along the sort of things we do here...

One of my favorite channels. Always well made, well thought out subjects with excellent production.

Goretex sucks, I think most of us have known that for a while. As per the vid, helps of options at half the price that are just as good, if not better.

My experience with Goretex over the last 20 years:

- MacPac Goretex jacket - not waterproof and non-breathable
- Kathmandu Goretex jacket - not waterproof and non-breathable
- Helly Hansen Goretex pants - not waterproof and non-breathable

Yeah I remember having raincoats in the 80s- cotton or canvas and oiled maybe. I remember they used to work.

I have found Goretex stuff fine if your standing round doing SFA and you get the odd shower and or cold wind. Kind of goes with what he is saying otherwise nothing can keep you dry whyle doing physical exercise and it's raining, Can't see a way round that.

I’ve used this out on the boat,Stalking…in the wind and rain….. albeit not totally waterproof,but close to it,this is I reckon is one of the best/better jobs I’ve worn…supplement this with waterproof leggings you can stay quite warm and dry
