    Honey badger knife opinions

Got the classic voucher for a birthday gift, and so was tossing up ideas. A new knife came to mind, something affordable and functional. What are thoughts on this honey badger knife?
Seems decent knife for the cost, although I've always been partial to a fixed blade over folding (from a previous adventure with a poorly looking blade when I was a kid haha). Also, always had a hankering for a guthook to try - hence when I saw this I thought why not trialed it. Anyway - keen to hear some opinions on this brand of knife if anyone has experience with them. Cheers!

They're awesome wee knives although I'm not a fan of that gut hook blade. All I use now. Have processed plenty of deer with them. Did 6 fallow in one evening with one and didn't touch the blade

Ryan Songhurst (beat me to it while typing) uses Honey Badgers I think, my thoughts on a gut hook are how do you sharpen them. I'm sure somebody will jump on and say.

    They are bloody good !!

I brought the smaller size one as a spare knife to tuck in my bino harness.

Couldn't help but give it a try....liked it....and now its boned out the last three deer I have shot. Still sharp as

PS. No gut hook on my one ?

Yep, I got a medium blade size and they are pretty good, hold a nice edge, no gut hook on mine either

Gentle stroke over the hook's edge with either a chainsaw file (very gently) or using a slim round diamond sharpener to do the same job. At a pinch some wet and dry sandpaper wrapped around a smooth steel rod of the right size will do it, and if you can find a very slim steel a rub over the edge with that will sort the hook's edge.

The rod just needs to be the right size or slightly smaller than the curve of the hook, bigger and you won't get to where you need to sharpen. The chainsaw file trick works for serrated blades as well, you just have to be GENTLE with it - no pressure on the file and one or two short rubs is all you need. Then check the back of the edge where it's usually left flat and a fine diamond steel to smooth that over if you've pushed it over.

The ones where the edge is central and there's a cut or bevel from each side are harder to deal with, just requires more care and patience.

We have a few in the house, 4wd etc, none with the gut hook and all are orange and blue handles so I don't lose the buggers

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I'll look to grab one of these, and will see whether I opt for gut hoom or no gut Hook. Thanks all!

Those gut hooks are buggers for catching and especially when you are blind freeing up things to get the lungs and stuff out.

I picked one up today, when I went in the only large they had was the guthook model, so ended up getting that one. Handling it - I do get the feel that it is a bit of a different approach when using it more for piercing/point of the blade type stuff, as more prone to catching and cutting things on the back of the blade with the Hook. Ah well, I shall see how it goes!

If you want to try gut hooks just buy stanley carpet knife blades, about $30 for 50, double ended throw them away when blunt, I use mine in a cheap folding stanley knife
