The answer to the question "Knives to use for hunting" is "yes". Yes, knives plural. I always pack two lightweight knives. Forgetting my kill bag with my sole knife when hastily packing the previous day to do a 7 day roar hunt, then realising my error 8 hours into the walk in... never made that mistake again.

I was attracted to it because it has enough belly for skinning back and a good point for doing arses. Knives with full skinning curves on them can be quite slow compared to straighter blades - especially removing back steaks. Excellent for processing at home. Holds a good edge and
super sharp. Ive used it skinning and prepping 4 hq's and 2 shoulders. $40

The irony is that it arrived in the mail the day I slashed my knee with another knife.

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

I have had and lost 2 peasant knives.
I would rather a mercator than a peasant knife.
I bought of ali express for FA and it seems to be as good a quality as the Eka.
    Pretty handy little knife.Attachment 285612Attachment 285613

I rate the EKA Swingblade. First reaction was "Gay AF" but after using it I've changed sides LOL. Good steel, and the weird unzipper blade is the ducks nuts for skinning cuts - blunt end under the skin and ....unzip the length of the animal.

Opinel no 8 has served me well. Cheap and chearfull. So far 2 fallow and 3 sambar.

Recently purchased a 5" Victory bones.
Hope to give it a test very soon.

The 8" victory I purchased abt 3 months ago is doing fantastic service in the kitchen.

Transitioned to a folder a couple years ago, fits nicely in the bino harness, seems to hold an edge. Ontario RAT l (I think) - can be had for about $70 or so from memory. Only regret is getting the green scales - there has been a few frantic searches for it mid way through processing an animal after putting it down.

Previously used a Bahco knife and have a svord peasant as a backup. Both get the job done, but I'm a bit of a minimalist and they have their flaws - handle on the bahco is a little slippery when bloody, its a bit long in the pack... Svord peasant is a joy to use most of the time but a pain to clean and I can't decide if the blade shape is either perfect or not quite nimble enough. Both easy to sharpen in the bush though which is great for my amateur hands.

So when I saw a Benchmade mini bugout at the local green shed for half price, I figured I'll never know what a spendy knife is like if I don't grab the bargain. Ordinarily I would sneer at the very thought of a $350 knife (What if you lose it on the hill??) but when it was down to $170 I figured that was an acceptable price to swallow. I'll see if it lives up to the marketing hype/my expectations.
