Ull love it man, and the more you use it the better it gets, takes a while to get the foam to mould to you but out of the box it was still the best back i have ever used.

$300? That's nuts. The packs are worth it, but it doesn't pay to look at the credit card statement or broadcast it to the home CFO. Great that the Stone Glacier range (well worth a look) is stocked in NZ, it is well worth actually trying on packs for size. Steve Speck from Exo is developing an "ultralight" version of the K4 which will be interesting to see.

Saw a write up about this fella here the other day 53yrs and he's done all the great walks with 75kg on his back. Just runs a Tatonka load carrier and loads it up with a heap of crap and off he goes, reckons he's working his way up to 100kg

That's mean, bless his knees. Plenty of room on his sternum strap to be fair.

I went window gawking again today to look further into the Sika Drover 40L, H&F in ChCh, they have them without any filling and cinched down...look pretty good tbh.
The one on the left packed with filling shows how large they can be and I'll never utilise the full potential of the pack.
I'm currently using a cheap Manitoba and given the proximity of 3 Chinese war ships I'm not about to knock it but I don't really like it. But....where I hunt for veni it'll probably do the job, I only really need to carry wet weather gear, safety gear including first aid, water which the Manitoba has a bladder and most important of all I need somewhere to stash meat so I don't necessarily need the meat shelf that the Sika Drover offers. This is the Manitoba with the basic items inside.
I think perhaps when I get some veni then I have a short trip back to 'camp' and I can just chuck it in a pillow case and meat bag and carry it in the pack - although I doubt the Manitoba will take 2 back legs plus back steaks.
Everything I've ever bought I never went with entry level product, I hate buying stuff and a few years later I buy something of better quality to do the same job which is a statement in itself, so I usually go up the ladder a few rungs and buy 'future proof' quality. Hence most gear I have today I've had for donkeys and while it maybe 'outdated' it is flawless and does the job!.
It's that thought in itself that is leading me to buy the Sika Drover.
@Twodiffs
Maybe you could use a somewhat cheaper cradle if you donīt want to spent that sort of coin.
I had a closer look into the Spika Drover as well. It seems to be a very reasonable pack for the money.
At the end of the day the most important aspect is that a backpack or any sort of equipment is reliable and you can focus on your hunt!
As I have no experience with meat shelf packs it will be very interesting to see how it works for me!
Been using a Kuiu pack for quite a few years now.Is a huge upgrade from the Tatonka I had.Have 3 different size bags for it.Game changer.![]()
