Can anyone shed some light for me on this tent. Is it as light as listed? (1.3kg) You can get a 2012 model for $315 AUD with new tags and gear shed, good price?
Thanks in advance.

Adam has the hubba hubba dave, the hubba single tent?
Yeah its a single and I have had an olympus from macpac for years great tent but its heavy. Seeing I am not flying in NZ and dont have the freedom of free rides anymore I plan to do a bit more walking:wtfsmilie: Seeing my boy is keen and ready I dont want him thinking its as easy as I have had it for a while.
I have a Hubba Hubba HP R93. It's pretty light. Carried it around Fiordland for 10 days chasing Waps and I rate it.
The hubba hubba weighs 1.3 you will be glad u got the 2 person when ur trying to roll round with your gear in the rain and keep dry whilst juggling ur undies at the same time as trying to get ur boots on lol
They're great. And yes they are that light. Would need to be careful where you pitch it though. The floor tub is pretty thin.
I've used it without the footprint 3 times in Fiordland and had no issues but I was concerned with weight as we were carrying everything on our backs for 10 days. Where are you staying in Oz R93?
I've got the 2 person hubba hubba, great wee tent, get the footprint it weighs sod all.
Hubba floor is puurrrrity much same as the thin fly material....
Uh ha and serious that floor is paper thin...
I've got a Hubba one man and yes it weighs about 1.4 kg from memory.
Used it on a wet weekend on the west coast and it was fine, but you need a ground sheet under the tub.
My buddy was under a tarp and looked miserable
Dave.
If your stupid enough or unfortunate enough to have to pitch it where water may run round/ under tent does that thin floor keep it out?
Get the footprint R93. You can pitch the footprint and fly only (no inner) make a great quick shelter. The fly and footprint combo is so light I even carry it in a daypack if the forecast looks dodgy. Also good for summer camping unless you go to a sandfly spot...
I got a Hubba HP.
175 cm tall, works for me, space between the inner and fly for gear... If it is only going to be you in the tent, I'd get the single, unless you are the size of a AB front rower :P
The only thing me and an AB front rower share is intelligence. Yeah I just want one for me. Have other tents if I want to spoon.
I may get the HP as well. Cheers.
I bought a new MontBell StellaRidge II recently... haven't had it out yet.. But its light, genuine alpine tent and with footprint weighs bout 1.7kg... 2 man small vestibule..
check out iclimb.co.nz
stronger tent than the MSR in serious conditions... selling my MSR ZOid 1.... which is almost as heavy.. Will take the MB everywhere or just the fly and footprint in the summer.. extra room will be great..
$730 ?
Yeah I see that Andrew. I looked at the wrong price. Still thats about 3 Aussie dollars:D
Maybe worth a look. Nothing wrong with having an extra bit of room.
Yeah had a pretty serious look at Hubbas.. it is good kit.. but liked this better... I have had it pitched but no use yet...
Japanese alpine brand... make some nice kit..
What prices are the hubbas
Cheers for the heads up Sidney. I will have a look at one. Do you need the footprint like ya do for the MSR or is it better material on the montbell?
This is another option, slightly heavier but cheaper. One advantage is no zip in the fly. I have recently bought one but haven't even put it up yet.
Exped Vela I UL Tent - Tents, Bivvies and Accessories - Camping and Tramping - Gear - Bivouac Online Store
No I still got the footprint... all of these ultralights are pretty light in the floor..
i got the single man hubba... good lite tent skinny floor, light to carry. best i have had....all i use to have was a piece of tarp. big step up!!
u can use the footprint and fly independently... if you are fussy u probably don't need the footprint... but i consider the xtra wear on the thin floor something to be avoided if possible..
yeah 1500mm hydrastatic head which is alpine type specs... many normal weight 3 season tents have 10,000mm head cause we lie in water sometimes and rivers flow under us. The footprint increases the head on the alpine tents which typically don't get the hydrastatic pressure in the snow and tussock. pretty sure the hubbas have a similar head and benefit from the footprint as well..
Thanks for the info Sidney I will get a footprint anyway.
