As far as I am aware they are all exactly the same thing with different branding. Kovea, jetboil etc just different colours
Only thing is getting the one with the package size you want ie the size container
Jetboil MiniMo vs. MSR WindBurner — CleverHiker
first one I found
Quite different, they use radiant heat instead of the open burner style of the Jetboil. Less affected by wind, altitude etc. I would likely upgrade to a Windburner if I was doing more alpine style hunting, but for me the Jetboil works.
I have one, never used a jet boil to compare, have to use a lighter to light rather than pressing a button.
I like mine less affected by wind,As above have to use a lighter to start.Annoying thing is accessories are a rip as they bayonet to the cooker.$170 slides for a fry pan.
Still using hexi. Costs nothing, weighs nothing, low profile, occupies fuck all space, can't break it, always works.
I do like the idea of the MSR jobbie in a tent or next to a bivvy bag though, had a jetboil, too tall, pain in the bum in the wind, don't have it any more. Don't buy an MSR here tho, get it from offshore.
me too bud..me too but Ive got all flash and use a tiny beercan cooker inside it...made from redbull sized can.... it fits inside folded up hexi frame along with a tin lid for primer tray and a lighter..30 mls of meths boils my 750ml mug and a hot chai latte from sachette makes a miserable day quite plesant.Ive even taken to carrying it when stalking for mid day cuppa!!!!
i have a jetboil and a msr windburner ... the windburner is better than the jet boil in exposed and colder climates like snowy tops etc, the rest of the year i use the jetboil... side by side they are very much the same but the windburner is less effected by air movement and the burner acts differently.
My little homemade meths cooker, from an immigrant beer can. Will support and boil a 2 liter billy if needed, just a matter of measuring the right amount of fuel.Attachment 95329
Anyone tried one of the AliExpress copies?

Mine doesn't appear to use any more than my mates jet boil, might have to test that theory ?
Even still I could buy a lot more canisters for the difference in price
Sorry not really related to the original op
@257weatherby could you show a step by step way of making that please.
Cheers:)
I went a slightly different route, got a folding firebox, uses wood, but also fits a meths trangia burner inside if in huts, find one pine one seems to produce enough heat to boil water for a cup of tea, Not sure if it would be any good in the snow - but everywhere else from the beach to the scrub seems to work and there is always plenty of wood around...
I use a Jetboil pot with the adaptor ring removed so I get the benifit of the conductive fins on the bottom whcih cocidentially lock into the stove, a titanium lid, and 60grm titanium stove. All in INCLUDING the gas fits inside the pot 213Grms. For wind Ipicked up a Mac pack tinfoil sheild for $9.
A bit a work to sort out but less than hafl the weight of a Jet boil or only 1/3 wright of the MSR.
I think you could be on to something there. I have the same little stove but use a billy and also a pie dish as a frypan/plate. I use these on a fire too if it suits to light one. I find the jet boil concept a bit gadgety and too heavy for just a water boiler.
Have you considered the MSR Reactor.
there is one of those units that will ONLY heat up the vessel provided with it or it suffers meltdown...... not 100% sure which one it is ,check it out BEFORE buying.
Re Jetboil and Windburner, no comparison in anything more than a 5kph breeze. Windburner will win easily.
Primary air, pressure regulator and radiant heat are the main technical differences.
You can improve boil times with standard stoves using finned pots as Jit has above, but any air movement (wind)between burner head and pot will leach heat regardless.
So what became of all thisnI hear you ask? Well, I ended up going a different route and bought the Primus ETA Lite. One of the main things that annoyed me about Windburners and Jetboils was the inability to use a frypan or different pot etc without forking out silly money for a MSR or Jetboil specific accessory. The primus comes with three little studs (you can see them screwed into a holder on the handle) that screw into the top of the burner and allow you to use it with whatever you want, so that was a major tick for me, its also lighter than both the jetboil and the msr and from reviews seems to perform about in the middle of the three. Weighs less than both others also

Nice. That's a great idea.
Is the heat controllable, ie can you simmer with the primus?
Having the three 'prongs' sitting way out at the corners will give reasonable stability as well does it? Nothing worse than loosing your dinner on the floor wih an accidental knock on the handle of a pan
The Primus ETA lite are on special at Torpedo 7 atm, half price $125 I think, online only.
msr $209.00 at torpedo 7 now

I just got the torpedo 7 branded jet boil copy. $80 on sale. Boils as fast as the jetboils.
I recently purchased the Primus ETA and took it out last week in the hills.
Reveiw so far, Worked really well in the wind, boils real quick, is small enough for a coffee in the day pack.
I really rate it. havent tried the frying pan on it yet but played about with it a home and worked good as. Container safely holds and boils 700ml easy.
$120.00 to my door I really think its excellent value for money.
Bivouac have some of the Primus ETA lites half price. They were on their website but with no "BUY" button. When I called them they were very helpful & found one in a store & have sent it up to me. Just waiting for it to arrive.
