Yeah, and wash out your bag with cold water and detergent, give a light scrub, then sit in a touch of bleach to sterilize it. Hot water will cause proteins to coagulate, and will most likely leave a stain. If I need to wash my load-shelf pack, separate the frame from the body, and remove it if you can.
