    Pocket sharpeners

Whatís everyone use in their day bags?have one with 2 sets of ceramic rods but itís average at best, have seen the small pointy ones that reverse into their handles and also the flat diamond sharpeners as well, whatís the best way to go?usually use a Mercator as main knife but it loses an edge pretty quick. Thanks

I use a flat diamond sharpener that folds down into its handle. Happy with it.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Yeah.... Can't say I've gotten a knife that blunt in a day that I need to carry one. Got a two-sided whetstone about 3" long and 5/8" wide that I'd carry if I felt the need.

if the knife had a good edge to start with a couple of swipes along the rifle barrel should be enough to keep it honed.

My Mercator seems to hold its edge for ages - as long as I don’t hit a bone, I swear by them for a general use folding knife that takes little space.
I sharpen and steel it at home, never needed to while hunting but if away for two days or more I carry a small coarse/fine stone for my ‘bigger’ knife.

I’m with @Finnwolf, Mercators hold their edge for a couple of deer.
I’ve used a flat river stone though when I’ve forgotten to sharpen my knife at home.

I have an old dc4 in its leather pouch lying around somewhere, diamond one side for chips, artificial sapphire otherwise for a polished edge, you can have it for $25 plus post if you want, works well, small, weighs very little (Ray Mear uses them).
