@striker thanks for that, looks like just under half the power draw of the gen 3

And remember the app permits you to turn it 'off' for whatever periods of the day you choose. Ours is off from 10.30pm to 6.30am. Saves 33% of your power draw for 24 hours. (we are off grid too)

Yeah that sounds about right for the mini - interestingly the Gen 3 you have looks to drag a bit more than my Gen 2. Are you sure the snow melt is off on your Gen3, as I would have expected the Gen 3 to draw less than the Gen 2???

Might interest people who work/travel more remotely and are keen to have better connectivity. Worked out that the mini works through fibreglass so I mounted it inside my ute canopy with a relay/switch in the cab. Turn it on and give it a min to boot then wifi calling/data all day, works mint driving down the road no issues.

Added some silicone to the suction cups but the mount is a cheap on of Ali. Cable could be much smaller but ran a 50amp one for other use. Big advantage of being inside is no holes and much less visible/likely to be stolen.

So you've just set up the power in the tray with a relay to a switch in the cab? Mine works pretty much OK just sitting in the back of the ute - I still haven't wrangled remote on/off into the system yet. Pretty cool how they work through the fibreglass, although when they fall over and land on their front the Mini dish's don't work too good haha. Pull over, get out and walk of shame into the back to sort it out.

I need to work out a better setup to stick it up - I haven't found anything that stays stuck on the inside of my canopy. I think Fleetline went OTT on the mold release agent on this one, even the stuff they stuck inside it fell off including their lights! Thinking I need to wrangle a bracket off the hinges for the side doors which positions the mini dish in the right place, and with that I can refit the some sort of internal light setup to that and save it falling off again.

However, I feel that I need to stay connected in some part due to my wife having to run the farm when I'm away etc and the Starlink Mini offers me the freedom to get away whilst knowing that I can contact home via video call etc if I needed to explain anything or take a look at any issues. I can't say I wouldn't be tempted to watch a couple of Tasmans adventures on YouTube on a wet tent day either.

That looks like a good bit of kit and certainly Starlink is the best net provider for my neck of the woods, all we can get is line of sight slightly faster than dial-up from anyone else, been on Starlink for near 2 years, ain't never going back to "broadband"
I'm fortunate that when I go more off grid than I already am, no need for communication (other than the trusty PLB if it all turns to shit) but this is a great solution for anyone who REALLY needs to have non emergency comms, as for tent rainy days, thats what the hip flask is for!

Yea, just wanted to set it up properly out of the way. I did have mine on the back seat for a bit but too much other sh*t is usually in the way.

Used Sikaflex to hold mine up so hopefully it stays up for a while.

Use this stuff, sticks like the proverbial to a blanket, as a test I used it to glue two battons to a studless wall in an alcove, dropped a board on them and they took my full weight, also, preprep with a cloth DAMPENED (not soaked) with acetone

I dunno, Sikaflex 291 peeled straight off - it looks like a fairly similar make up to that stuff... Th Sika stuff is like a derivative of the force - glues light to dark!

I think it's a combination of the gelcoat being super slick and the contamination from the mold release agent. I haven't been able to find anything that stays stuck to it yet and with it being fibreglass I'm a little reluctant to try abrasion on the surface - which is what they are telling me it will need. Easier answer I think is to interior frame it off the internal mounts for the side gullwing door hinges. That will not break or fall off, and there is sufficient internal height that it won't affect the access to the tray.
