I would say a photo of the wife tucked away however it is not macho to mention here so I will have to say insulation tape is my friend. Depending on the type of trip I try to get away with just using a spoon and "heat and eat" meals like pasta or Kaweka Meals type food that can be eaten from the packet. That way I only use one pot to heat my meal/s, dirty 1 spoon and no other dishes to clean. Use the hot water for a brew and wash the spoon in.
Ziplock bags are great for packing the days food/radios/wallet etc in as are the drybags for keeping gear dry as already mentioned.
I always carry my wallet or some form of ID. You never know when your number is up and when you will be found
