    Trail running shoes?

I have been using new balance trail running shoes for hunting, love the idea of shoes I haven’t felt like I have needed boots but the problem is I go through a pair every 8-9 months as I use them pretty hard, I have been using new balance because they do a 4E size for my weird hobbit feet.
Does anyone else use trail runners that have wide feet? I’ve heard Solomon’s are good but for skinny feet?
    Cheers

I use Solomon Trail shoes when walking the dog, A pair lasts oover 12 months @ 6-8km per night, Miss about 4-5 nights per year due to weather and its all riverbed and "offroad"
they last well for my feet, Wont buy anything else now ASICS ? lasted 7 months
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

I use adidas kanadia ? Shoes for my pack training Round town, used them once hunting last summer, brought a pair of the macpac trail running putties. Worked ok, pack was light.

How you find shoes with a load?
Went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.

+1 for Solomons. Have a couple pairs that are pretty robust considering the treatment they get.

Dunno if I would hunt in the ones I have due to the terrain and water but that's me.

I depends on how much you want to spend on shoes for your hobbit feet.
Some of the newer running shoes with "zero drop" type soles are better designed for real feet.
But no running shoe lasts long with serious hunting use, they are considered a disposable item in running.

the salomons are fairly popular with trail runners. i used mine for light hiking overseas for 3 weeks and they were fine . great travel shoe

i usually wear boots but on a recent trip i misplaced them , and thought i would give the salomons a go . they worked fantastic but i found with a 30kg pack my feet we're sliding forwards a bit after an hour of steep downhill

other than that get the non goretex version but either is good

Thanks for the reply’s, I find loads fine with shoes, carrying full packs doesn’t seem to matter, best pet is we have a lot of river crossings and they dry so fast.
Does anyone that use the Solomon’s have wide feet?

You will need to go to a shop and try some on, Salomon aren't known for generous toe boxes, the ones I've tried were too narrow.

I got some of these, unfortunately the ones I got were too small so I'm waiting on the return of a new pair but they get good reviews and they seem built real well for a light boot/shoe hybrid

I wear Altra running shoes and swear by them, they have a 0mm drop. I have run many ultra marathons in them.

They have released a model called the Altra Lone Peak 3.5 Mid, they look like great lightweight hiking shoes. Suitable for running too.

I have pretty wide feet, the point of these shoes is to allow your toes to 'splay' / 'open up' so that you dont cramp. It allows your feet to be in their natural position. Kinda hard to explain

Just picked up a pair of Altra Torins yesterday to replace my road shoes. Done short jogs in them last night and this morning nice shoes to wear.

Use a pair of Merrel light weight shoes/boots for quick evening wanders, have lasted well considering a often end up working then all day at work.

Just put on a pair of 'mack' shoes for work, They have a certified steel cap but it's plastic so nice and light, mate uses them at work and finds them really comfy. Been in them for a few hours now and no complaints.

Find that trail shoes are ok for an evening wander but if a trip involves, steep decent or traversing I much prefer a pair of boots with ankle support

+1 for Merrels, my pair are about 7 years old now, really tough shoes and comfortable.

If you weren't poaching Nick you could just use boots and avoid any running at all!!

But that would remove the thrill of the chase.
