    Waterproof puffer Jackets

    Hi there,

Looking for any real reviews from people to gauge the pros and cons between either the bushbuck canvas waterproof puffer or the Huntech McKinnon puffer..

The appeal of the canvas heavy duty ish part seems great for when camped up in bush etc.

Essentially looking for waterproof, easy to fold up, durable and won’t tear and only want to buy once!

    Cheers!

I would look at wear on earth or this from Rab.

The wear on earth at 30k head waterproof rating looks way ahead of the Rab one.

Do what I do. Get a macpac halo for a hundred bucks and wear it under a rain coat. If you put a hole in it put some strapping tape over the hole. If you get another hole put more strapping tape on it. Once there’s more strapping tape than nylon showing or the zipp gives out pay another hundred bucks and repeat the process.

I have Montane Duality jacket, similar to the Rab Valiance but Goretex as opposed to Pertex. Warm, waterproof, lightweight and pretty good shopping at Further Faster at the moment. I also have a canvas puffer from Wear On Earth - way warmer and harder wearing but it is properly heavy. Doesn't get used much for general hunting, drive-in trips only!

+1 for Wear On Earth! I am glad I got one. It's my go-to rain jacket in winter now because of how good the waterproofing is.

The Wear on earth are awesome they also do a lighter than canvas waterproof that maybe better for hunting and packing in.
My so has one and it looks really smart and waterproof as no baffle seams on the outside.
I have a lighter material again which is waterproof but has stitching so not guaranteed waterproof.
I have 2 of their puffers and they are super warm.

It’s insane that WOE canvas puffer is half the price of the Cactus one. How does that add up?

Rab valiance is what I use, I've had it out in the wet several times and can confirm I've remained dry.

I'm getting a new one made at Wear On Earth. Bumped up the fill to 850 loft and using a cut/design that isn't so marshmallow man... (@MSL will be along shortly)

Very cool. Didn't know they did a heavy canvas model. Been super impressed with my lightweight custom one they made me.
