    Waterproofness: PVC vs Goretex?

    Greetings all

Just curious of peoples experience and opinions on the merits of the 2 out in the bush. Have namely been looking at waterproof pant options. Did have some ridgeline goretex ones but they tore at the belt after less than 10 wears (very light use at that too!)

So now looking for a new set.

    Cheers

I'm far from an expert on anything but I was sitting in snow yesterday and was dry and warm buy nights end. Wore goretex boots and feet were the warmest I've ever been. I've used pvc at work and on farms and out hunting and there is no comparison.

I think the main thing is the quality. I was wearing Kuiu gear and lowa boots.

I find i sweat like a dog in pvc as they cant breath and rip easy 100% water proof even though you feel damp its just sweat. Got a couple pairs of swazi that are ok.

Personally prefer GoreTex - same reasons as above, hate sweating in PVC, find I end up wetter just from sweat. Good quality GoreTex just seems to work!

As said, PVC is ok if you're not doing anything to make you sweat, otherwise you're just wet with sweat instead of rain.

Goretex and other equivalents do the job much better when you're active. Pits zips help with the sweat situation too. Goretex isn't necessarily better than other waterproof/breathable materials, just the most well known and normally most expensive brand.

I hate the sweat. I hunt in long shorts and long gators (and breath through my knees )

Dont matter which I sweat in both if doing a fair bit of exertion. Personally I prefer the techniflex type urethane stuff that has a fabric lining.
