    Z-Lite reviews?

    Afternoon guys,

Anyone have any experience with the Thermarest Z-lite sleeping mats, and if so, are they better than your regular foam sleeping mats?
My Exped shit the bed and don't really want to go down the path of another inflatable matress.
    Intending to use for summer.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Yeah, they are equally as uncomfortable as the other ccf mats. Only OK if you can find moss or grass to lay it on, and forget about side sleeping.

They are marginally more comfortable than sleeping on the ground though, and they don't pop.

What happened to the exped? They are a far superior option imo

    Popped and the valves collapsed.
Thanks for the advice Nick. Better take a second look at things.

That’s a bummer about the exped. Was it on something sharp or left fully inflated in a hot tent? Or did it just fail? Maybe it’s under warranty? FWIW I am still loving my neoair after several years of use.

    Hey Will,

I can't be too sure but I think it got punctured at home after my sister used it in the apartment.
When you use your Neoair are you also using a foam mattress as ground support?

I rate my Thermarest NeoAir XLite. I did about 250 nights on it before it gave me some trouble with maintaining air, Thermarest replaced with a new one, like for like. I was happy

Am I right to assume that you guys are using a foam mattress as your base foundation? Cheers Nick, that's very generous of you. Where did you buy your thermarest Joel?

I use my Neoair straight on the ground with no problems after several years.

@Daniel Kwon from Amazon a couple of years back. Considerably cheaper, you'll pay GST on it now but even so, you'll land a regular sized mattress for about $230 NZD instead of $400+

I use a Neoair directly on the ground no problem although mine does loose air after a night but not completely flat, it's still comfortable

NeoAir on the ground is just fine

Mine got punctured by a helicopter rotor when they packed up our camp after i was rescued in South westland
They just collapsed the tent with everything in it and it for sucked up towards the rotor.
Popped the NeoAir and made a small hole in the tent.
I naturally wasn't there but believe the pilot was in a hurry and it just about ended in disaster.

Repaired just fine with genuine thermareast patches and that was 6 years ago
Did another patch recently and no issues

That's a very good point - they do come with repair patches! @Daniel Kwon I am usually in a tent or have a ground sheet so there will be one thin layer between the neoair and the ground - but I also check the ground carefully for sharp sticks etc before pitching the tent or fly.

I assume they have to be strapped to the outside of one's pack.
Which means if you're tramping in rain or wet bush, the wet sleeping pad would go into the tent and against the down sleeping bag, which for me is a no-no.

Sea to Summit seems a very good inflatable, and they have an inflation sack for rapid inflation.
